Went from my looks like a 10.5 to 11 and a half inch rotors and calipers now take the full size pads and it looks like it looks nice we'll see how it works

4pot? Any of the w124/129 sway bars will fit with some trimming up front.

vstech 10-04-2013 11:46 PM

no, I'll save my 4 pot calipers for the wagons. just upgrading to standard 124 calipers and rotors is a huge improvement in braking.

I needed pads, and did not have any local source for them, and I did not have any 201 stuff sitting around, so... necessity is the mother of invention, I pulled the caliper mounts, and checked, they matched, so I checked the rotor for clearance, and it also fit (with a little tweak of the dust shield...) so I stuck a crappy set of rotors, and some used pads I had laying around. test drove it, and it's GREAT! so, now I'll install a set of textar ceramic pads, and new rotors, and have fantastic stopping power!

I'm noticing more things on this car...

first off, the hood is a different color than the rest of the car...

as is the interior panel above the windshield... the bulk of the interior is grey tex, but the visors and the panel they attach to is maroon... odd. I mean, sure, the visors fail and get damaged, but to swap in maroon parts including the panel is strange. oh, and the car has a leather steering wheel. I'm guessing from a later 124 it feels great, but it's a tad larger than I'd like with the legroom of the w201...

Sorry, I just realized I never put up any photo's... my bad.

heh... in the side view photo background you will see two of my 300TD wagons, and jay_bob's 300TD wagon, along with the 93 300D parts car, my 85jetta diesel, the 83SD veg car, and my suburban...

ok, anybody know where the monovalve is? the heat will NOT SHUT OFF!!!

I pinched the return hose shut with a pair of hose crimp pliers... and I drove home comfortably tonight...

I'm nearing 502K on the baby... first fill of the tank, and I got 376Miles on the tank... I chickened out on the fuel gauge... it was approaching R, and I filled it up... how big is the tank? I only got 12.9 gallons in there. I'm thinking if I have a 15 gallon tank, and I drive without all the burnouts, and high speed highway driving I can get 525miles without difficulty... but I don't know how big the tank is, and I don't know if the Reserve light works...

vstech 10-06-2013 10:16 PM

Check behind the leaf guard in front of the windshield.

The W124 leather wheel is within 1/4" of the stock W201 foam wheel.

The tanks are 14 gal IIRC. 525 miles on 15 gal (37.5 mpg) would be tough. I get 29-31 with 75% highway and 33-34 100% highway. You probably could get 37 cruising at 60 mph.

The heater water control valve is the cowl air intake area. It should have a vacuum line going to it.

vstech 10-07-2013 02:46 PM

525miles on 15 galons would be 35mpg... I thought that would be attainable, since I'm getting nearly 30 with hard driving, and stop and go... 14 gallon tank, only gets me 490... I'm OK with that too! we'll see how much I can get!

MAAAN if that's so about the wheel size, I REALLY would like a tilt column...

I figured the control was in there, I could see hoses under there, but didn't wanna go into surgury on the car just yet.
Thanks!

They do have a small fuel tank, only 14ish gallons or so. A fillup on mine from empty is only 12 gallons. My TDI is the same, has a 14.5 gallon tank.

Tank size isn't a big issue when getting 30mpg + :) I have been getting about 30 city 35 highway with my OM601.

vstech 10-08-2013 04:43 PM

ok, so 14gallons ish... 30mpg tops? should I be able to get 35? if I don't get on it hard, or drive too fast on the highway? (MAN it's hard to keep it under 75...)

vstech 10-08-2013 11:06 PM

well, tonight the car rolled over 502K... I took pics as the moment rolled up.

I set the cruise at 70mph and just ticked the miles along as the roll over happened.

oh yeah... the cruise works! My first benz with working cruise, and it's this 1/2Million miler... go figure...
