Can an SD brake booster be wedged into a W123?
Yes. But just barely.

Sorry for the delay.
Here's the normal mc and brake booster for the car (1983 300TD)  And here's one from a 1982 300SD.

wow!
what are benefits with the larger volume booster? less pressure on the pedal, more stored stopping power after the engine is off? what was the goal? Interesting swap

Glad it's going to be you and not me, if you need to ever replace the vac shutoff valve
 ... though I would kill for easier access to the fuse box.

I see a lot missing from that motor... does it have a manual trans installed?

That's pretty much the extent of connections to the motor. I pulled it to paint the engine bay and still have to finish putting everything back together. At the moment I'm finishing up the brakes, rebuilt calipers all around (1st gen SD calipers in the front), new hoses, new master cylinder and DOT 5 brake fluid.
