Mouse Repellant - Cab Fresh - Anyone use it?

Ever have mice / rodents in your storage building, cars, trucks or house? If you don't have them then you must have lots of cats. While I've used stinky dryer sheets in closed cars with limited success, they aren't successful in closed buildings.

My uncle sent me a note about Cab Fresh and he said he was going to try it in his rural home and old cars. I now live in a semi rural area and my neighbors all have poison in their garages. I'd like to protect my 300D from rodents and not use poison.

Have you ever used this product? It's called Cab Fresh. (google it) I understand it's available at ACE Hardware and other stores. Some stores might not have it and you might have to order it. Then only down side is that it lasts for about 90 days. Here's more information http://www.earth-kind.com/howto/

I have not heard of or used that.

I do use mothballs. Living out in farming country on many acres, with over a dozen vehicles, many stored in and around the barn, mice can be heck on things like wiring and insulation.

The mothballs have worked for me. Yeh they stink when you first open up the vehicle to air it out but it works.

My barn cat does a pretty good job, but I was getting mouse nests in my watercraft and the stored cars, so went to the mothballs.

Back where I used to live some critter completely gnawed up a wiring harness, that was an american car with a harness as big around as your arm. Nasty critters.

Ditto......mothballs.

I live in the country and mice are a constant problem, even with several neighborhood cats. You can buy a phenomenal amount of mothballs for $108! (mothballs are about $3-4/box!)

If you've got 6 or more and only 2 drivers, mothballs it is!!
After 30 years I'd swear by 'em. Works on raccoons too.

We are in semi-rural area and get an occasional mouse in our houses' attic. But for some reason they don't seem to go in seprate workshop/garage building where I have 3 cars stored over winter.

I once tried mothballs inside our house walls in an area we sometimes hear mice. That was a mistake! We now soak cotton wool with Peppermint oil. I don't know if it works, but it smells a lot better!

I know OP didn't want to use poison, but one idea I had that I have never tested, is to leave some glycol antifreeze in dishes. I have heard that animals like the sweet taste. Dogs unfortunately sometimes lap up drips from cars and get very ill or die.

I've tried mothballs. That was a win-lose. The mice stayed out in the winter, the wife refused to ride in the summer. She swears she can still smell them even years later.

I tried dryer sheets. Those seemed to be working, until I opened the truck and found a mouse nest made of dryer sheets.

I have three cats. They catch chipmunks, frogs, and birds all day long. I stood beside one cat and watched a mouse running around the barn. After it was gone the cat looked at me as if saying "You gonna do something about that?"

I have no problems with mice in the house. They get in but they just don't live. There's a snake in the roof that's in the neighborhood of 5-6' long judging by the shed skins. You'll hear a mouse move in but it's gone by the next day. That would be even more effective than mothballs at keeping mice and wife out of vehicles.

So I'll have to try some Cab Fresh and see if it works.

It may an idea to to put the mothballs on floor under car and cover over car.

We don't have a resident snake, but we live on a lake and have a resident mink (only ever seen one at a time, but presumably a family. During summer it seems the minks eat fish, but once or twice, we have heard them in our attic (they chatter!)

We had a wild life/pest guy check the attic and he found droppings that contained hair. He says that would only be a mink or weasel/ermine. They can apparently go through any hole that a mouse can! So like your snake, we don't mind the minks. But we stay clear of them - they can be quite vicious!

Back to Cab Fresh. This is what it is:
Quote:
Fresh Cab is a natural blend of plant cellulose fiber (corn cobs), and essential oils of Balsam Fir, Lavender, Spanish Rosemary, Cedar, Orange, and Lemon. This mixture is placed within breathable fabric pouches that can be placed or hung in areas you want to keep fresh and protected.
So it seems it is not much different from the cotton wool and peppermint oil I have used except that the pouches probably control the rate of release. It seems that mice rely a lot on smell, so anything that disturbs that causes them to go elsewhere.

Thanks for reminder - I need to put some pest repellent in our wall cavities.
