Safelite and CDs

The windshield seal on the CD is ugly, lots of sealant 'patching' by previous owner/flipper.

Not currently leaking that I can tell, but I don't like the look and don't really want to put the car on ebay with it, that and if I don't end up selling I want to paint the car and not with that ugly moulding.

Safelite claims to have the new glass and moulding for $284 installed with a lifetime warranty against leaks etc. I'm sure it's a chinese moulding, but if they have to come out every year and replace it because it shrinks and splits, do I care?

Worth screwing with? I can get the Genuine MB moulding itself for $250 delivered, but then I have to uninstall and reinstall without cracking my old glass, and none of the glass shops I talked to will take responsibility if they do it.

print out the FSM on windshield installation and make sure they know how to do it before you let them install with regards to the aluminum molding. I trusted that safelite knew their business, and was wrong. Still, its an old car and no one can be expected to know everything about every windshield install on every old car. Just as long as you discuss the FSM with them before anything is done.

The safelite windshield itself was quite nice

Yeh I had read your story a while back and forgotten it. Good refresher. I won't be pulling the aluminum out beforehand, I want to leave all liability with them, including bent moulding .

Good tip on FSM. I'll print that out. Last Safelite I had done was on an old Ovlov 745 and they did a great job.

Will be waiting a couple weeks as there are three folks interested in the car as swaps so until I know about those I won't sink more money into what is right now simply cosmetic.

Buy the OEM windshield gasket. The safelite windshield started to wear pretty quick after about 2-3 years. The cracked the first one but came back out and replaced it in a day or 3. No real complaints for the cost, I had a spare gasket NIB that came with the car so no out of pocket there for me.

I will be using them again for my W124, the cost is hard to beat.
