I think he said an hour and a half.

Last time registered a car at the RMV, it took ~3 hours -- no hitches.

Ah, indeed he did. Misread it. That being said, 1.5 hours still isn't bad by local standards.

Not to hijack the thread but that dosen't look like a bandage, but a similar skin condition that some regular poster here has. BTW great work so far JJay.

As I slowly find a few coins, I am slowly getting things done. Now that its a daily driver again, I have to fix these things. I am not sure when I will get into digging into the 78's transmission to see whats going on.

Then in July, I will be taking a trip in him to Michigan.

So the day before yesterday I did the oil change, the car has a good engine, the oil today is still clear. Today I cleaned the primary filter out and install anew secondary filter. When I got this car, long ago it had an algae bloom in the tank, from this last sitting I am noticing some new particles floating in...so time to keep emptying the primary until no more particles are found.

I also decided to upgrade my cables to 2 gauge, a preventive maintenance item that I think all member should do.

The ground cabled was pretty nasty looking and the clamp had a nice crack in it. A long time ago, the positive cable was swollen from corrosion and one a few tiny thread of the cable were holding it onto the clamp, I installed a universe clamp back then, the wire was corroded again and some rust starting.

These cables will last a long long time.

I have also ordered a slide hammer and new heat shields, so I can remove the stuck heat shield that I have been avoiding and since I am smoking pretty bad, I am going to switch in my bosch injectors from my 78 into this guy and send these to greazzer....I did replace these injectors with rebuilt monarks some time ago, so I am insure why they aren't spraying correctly unless the guy who stole my car switched out the injectors.

This was a surprise and a glad I found it now issue, the starter trigger wire had a wear in the insulation, this could have made contact with the starter wire and caused the starter to randomly engage, slipped on heat shrink tube and fixed now.

Well time for a little update, I sold some gold and was able to afford some parts for the ol stubborn guy

I drained and flushed the brake fluid, he already had a new master cylinder, rotors and pads....so want to keep up on everything now. Couldn't believe how dark the fluid was but it has probably been in for four years. I didn't flush the clutch...that's another headache

I went to hook up my washer system again and the valve was busted, attempted to wire it together but no go, so I bought a new one. Some one also stole the lid off the washer jug, so I got another one at the JY. I put it all back together, just to see I need a new grommet that the motor sits in and one of my jets is clogged.

It was also time for new elbows for the blow by pipe? as they were zipped tied, clamped and everything but I was still getting leaking on the valve cover and under the breather.

I have done some cleaning and detailing of the engine and bay, I will do my before and after pics when I get it clean enough to eat off of

I also got my assortment of metric o rings, so I will be going around and changing random o rings.

I also ordered new motor and trans mount, rear windshield gasket.

Today, I had to go with my step grandfather to pick up an engine for his lincoln from the shipper so I stopped at the JY. I wanted to go back to the silver 300D that I have been grabbing parts off for door lock actuators, seat spring, a bundt rim for my spare and look at the sunroof cable tube. Well the car was gone Sad too, I would have loved to pick everything off of it before it got crushed. So I went over to a 300SD 1985, had a nice spare bundt on it, so put that in my wheel barrow and then I remembered I could use the seat spring on my 300d....lucky the seat was in just the right position to make getting the track bolts out possible...but still a pita....so I worked and worked and then got it out, now came the chore of removing all the electronic motors....ugh....took for ever! finally my seat spring!!! It was really sad, this w126 had very nice blue leather upholstery and pretty clean straight body, has the kkk turbo...looking over the engine...i see why it was junked, one of the main clear fuel lines was kinked with pin holes...would love to grab the engine....but this place wants triple the price of a gas engine for a diesel engine. I also stopped by another w126 and found a tool bag!!! and grabbed a nice handful of dash lights for spares.

So I get to the counter, and await the price, the seat spring was 12$ exactly what he quoted and then he gets to the rim....40$...I was like eekkkk really he says yes its aluminum and there is a 12 core included in that....far cry from the 19$ I was quoted...so I left it behind...

He is also running a lot smoother and burning hardly any fuel....so far 44 miles around town and the needle just moved....last fill up I was getting 22mpg a gal around town. My smoking appears to be gone, thinking that was due to the odd egr tube that was installed when it was brought over. I am really happy so far.

pics!

Mounts came in today and the windshield seal.

Figured out why I had a this strange feeling in the passenger side, though the tire was un balanced....turns out, the idiots who had my car stole the 8mm bolt in the mount on the passenger side....so I borrowed one from the 78....hate borrowing parts of 78, means i will have more work to do when I get to her.

The trans mount was still in one piece but had several cracks in it.

I still had an original mount on the passenger side and uro on the drivers side....both weren't bad...but I wanted to replace all the mounts at once...so I don't have to worry about them for some time to come.

I still have a strange idle issue....very lopie....I hate to steal parts of the 78 for this one, but I really think I should switch injectors over and see if there will be a difference in the idle. Plus I have that stuck injector heat shield I should get out..

A few things that may have an effect on the idle, is the po used tons of ether on the engine when the glow plugs died and I have the M pump...that has more then one o ring that could use replacing.

The real good thing, is I have very very small amount of blowby...I love it! Bad thing is, eventually I will have to pull the ip to replace the gasket, and a few gaskets on the inspection plates on the pump.

Video and pic!

Very happy to see you got your Euro back! Years ago when I first saw your car, it was like being transported to Europe in the 80's....you even had the sunroof deflector and the "Taxi" sign.

t's too bad that you have to replace so much to get it back into shape, but going through everything as you are, your car will be better & more reliable by the day which is the opposite of what people get when they buy a new car. Plus with the 4-speed, I think these are infinitely more fun to drive than....well...pretty much any sedan you could buy now.

His skin condition looks worse than mine.

Put the rear windshield in yesterday and got the headliner in temporary....I still need to order insulation to do the ceiling and figure out my plan o action on the sunroof as I bent the cable tube, to hell and back...errrrrrr....

So if you've done this job, you will know...you need to glue the headliner on the lip before the rear windshield can go in...I then wanted to tint the rear windshield to match the rear windows, as you can see I need to go in and push so more bubbles out now that the solution has dried. It looks really good to me and I think the tint looks especially well with the brown and chrome. Now all I need is some fender flags I will look like I am transporting some one very important

I also drilled the holes in my new license plate so it can be screwed to the euro mounting points....I can promise I broke some kind of federal law but drilling the hole

My new headliner is white, couldn't find a palomino one and I think when I add my floral accent fabric it will go great with it.

I am very very happy with the progress!!!

Oh an yes I used a uro seal....some reason I have good luck with uro windshield seals but horrible luck with anything else by them.

Today and tomorrow I worked on the injectors....being a virgo and wanting perfection....is horrible on these cars.

So I am trying my hardest to cure the lopie idle I have and some of the smoke out of the rear, had a feeling that they are both connected to the fuel side of the engine. So I switched the injectors from the 78 into this guy and slide hammered out the stuck heat shield also checked all the glows, I then replaced the o ring on the lift pump that is on the fuel supply line to the ip.

I then started it up, no change to the smoke and idle. So I guess the injectors isn't the issue.

So today, I attempted to change the o rings on the valves in the ip. Most were lose, leading me to think, they were sucking air in. I didn't have the special socket, but I was able to use a pair of vise grips, got all the o rings changed and they were all flat. I couldn't get the valve for cyl 1 undone...will need the socket for that one.

Time to get all the air out of the ip, pumping, cranking and more cranking finally got all the air out...pops off....whats this....

Still no change errr!!

Last thing I have to do is change the oring in valve 1 and check the timing.

I have plenty of power and feels like a little more after the o ring change....its just that darn idle and smoke...

I may have a clogged tank strainer....so I am thinking of switching the lines around to see....not sure if that would cause my issue..

Who says I need a turbo?
