Understanding the Vacuum System

The first thread tried to live two times, but alas, think it is finally dead. So starting fresh and new!

What we have not resolved is the following (using the provided diagrams):
65 (V.C.V.) leaks. How do I address this?

45 (climate control check valve (The yellow and white plastic object inline?) has a leak and I can hear it at/behind the firewall. I traced it to 40 (center flap). Wait, can it be that easy?! What is the mode of failure? How do I test?

Thank you all for the past and present help!

I don't know the details but on all most all of the interior Vacuum actuated items there is a Rubber Diaphragm that goes bad.
In the Case of the Climate controls; at least on My Year and Model you can remove the Vacuum Servo and replace the Diaphragm.

Thank you so very much!

I am sorry, but not finding the article you are referencing... The links take me to a list and none seem to match.

Maybe I am wrong. I would sure I read of someone replace the climate Control Pod Diaphragms and there was someplace that sells them.

Another issue is that you might not find the Thread Title specificaully for what you want; you will only find a general section to look in. You need to look in the Climate Control Section and also if there is a section on Vacuum problems.

I only found this in My notes:
George Murphy at Performance Analysis Company sells complete ACC diaphragm kits and early w123 door lock actuator diaphragms.
The kits are about $36 and the door lock diaphragms are $8.50 each.

Not concerning your specific problem but for others the older door actuators are different from the ones on My 1984. There is no inside Diaphrabms available for mine but there is an exterior Boot available.

I was looking for W123... Guess need to be more open minded!

Well, according to gsxr the diaphragms are no longer available. I don't have time to pull the pod, manufacture a diaphragm, and then hope it works. Now if I had a spare to look at, I might think differently.

Though now that I think about it, tomorrow is Thursday. That mean I wouldn't get parts until next Friday. Maybe I should set aside Saturday and go down to the yard and see if I can find a replacement pod?

How long do you think it last? Is it worth it?

Can you explain what you mean by saying it leaks?

The VCV is a bleed-off valve, that is its function.

Fine. Thus the purpose of this thead.

Apply vacuum and does not build/hold.

I repeat: The VCV is a bleed off valve, aka a leak-off valve.

That means, it is not supposed to HOLD vacuum, it leaks it off. That is the function it serves in the system. This function relates to the transmission and shift quality, not the climate control.

The port on the side should have a rubber elbow (or possibly a rubber elbow with a vacuum tube running from it) that is NOT connected to anything else, and that points under the car.

If that side port IS connected to another part of the vacuum system, then the vacuum lines are messed up, routing-wise.
