W123 door lock jam

I can't get my door lock to move. Is this something that I can fix or should I just replace? I'm not exactly a Swiss watch maker!

To be more clear, can anyone tell if there is something broken here? If it just needs grease, where does the grease go? Can someone share their experience with maintaining these?

Much appreciated!!!!

Can you tell if there are any jagged or sharp piece? Any bits and pieces at the bottom of the door itself? And are you able to tell the specific binding point(s) when you attempt to open the lock?

Maybe these photos will help, I have my car stripped right now, this is of the driver side:

Thanks for your reply and the photos, Assault. I was reading an old thread of someone with the same "problem". Maybe it's just that the driver's door needs to be closed in order for the locking mechanism to manually lock and unlock via the plunger? I'm going to grease it and re-install to see how it goes. Thanks for your help!

Yes. It is designed that way. Unlike North American cars of the period, you cannot lock yourself out of a Mercedes by accidentally closing the door with the lock button down.

Next time you would save yourself some trouble by describing the actual behaviour ("Why can't I push down on the door lock with the door open?") and asking the question before you have the car pulled apart .

I suspect you are going to have loads of fun reinstalling that....

I am having this problem rightnow as well... but my door is closed!

I got a used driver side door for my wagon. Took the handle off the old door and installed it into the newer door.

The plunger will not go down when the door is closed nor will the key turn the lock...

Any Ideas!?!? Pretty stumped on this.. I took the old lock mechanizm out of the old door and am inspecting it but cant see much. Nor am I a swiss watch maker.. its pretty complicated.. I might try swapping the lock assembly from the old door into the new one. This car is a rebuild so I dont remember if the old one worked anyway..

hmmmmm
