Merz 1976 300D Ignition tumbler removal?

I have a Mercedes 300D 1976 Chassis W123. The tumblers in the ignition do not come out the same way as a 300D 77-92. No pin hole. No button on the side to use when in accessory. What am I missing? Plenty of info on the 77-92. Not much for this one.

Everything besides the tumbler I think is the same as a 77. Any guidance would in removing the tumblers would be very much appreciated. I have the key.

Edit-There is a ring besides the plastic cap that has the mercedes part number for the tumblers on it. I have a feeling this must be removed to get to the release holes. But I cant for the life of me figure out how.

Thanks! Tim

Possibly the '76 used the same as the w115?

the pin on the older tumblers is actually on the back of the assembly. i think it can be accessed if you drop the knee panel and reach up inside. if not you may have to remove the cluster.

edit: i've never actually done this procedure. just researched it because i thought i had to replace the tumbler on a 77 240D. the old tumblers i believe were used up to 1980. if you have to replace it they are not compatible with the newer version, which is readily available for very cheap.

Thanks

Thanks for both your replies. I think your correct and the entire cluster has to come out. Sigh... Although I will double check I did not miss anything on the back.

I did look at the 115 and its not the same although had me going for a few min! Thanks much!

Note: If it is a 1976, it is a W115.114 chassis.

Thanks Whunter!!

Thanks so much allot of great info there. I just woke up but looks like everything I was looking for. I thought it was that chassis because that's the number on the vin and the model stamped on the plate. Where is the chassis number just for my own future reference? It was manufactured in late 1976. I will post pics anyway. Thanks again. Edit - mine is white. Great info. thks again.
