Dash is coming out - gotta fix stuff...

4 fixits on the list, not sure what time commitment I'm looking at. Any tips are appreciated.
  1. Replace heater core - getting a whiff of antifreeze as I drive.
  2. Replace Squirrel cage blower - its just starting to chatter
  3. Replace ignition switch - its locked up a few times, but still working
  4. Repair Cruise control - hasn't worked, ever.

Anything else under there I should take a look at while its all apart? Any tips on getting parts at reasonable prices?

What model do you have?

If you have a model with automatic climate control I would recommend renewing the vacuum pod diaphragms on the damper actuators.

since the firewall insulation is so light on these cars i've always thought that in a dash-off situation i'd put a whole bunch of foam back there.

He has a 81 240D.

Be sure to add this to your signature so you are not always asked.

The old 30 something year old insulation has seen better days, I would take it out and add something like this.
Dynamat.com | Dynamat Sound Damping | Thermal Solutions

With the dash out, a good time to replace it.

Here are a few links to the dash removal and evap cleaning etc...

This last on he is working on a 300TD and a 240D

PeachPartsWiki: Replacing the A/C Evaporator

Hope these are some what helpful for you.

Thanks guys - I thought I had a sig - I guess not. I hadn't considered the evaporator, but is worth doing, thing is the AC is pooched anyways, so I'm not sure how much time I'll spend on it. By the looks of the plugs, this dash has been out before. I wonder what I'll find back there.

ETA - Signature won't stick for me Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Got the car into my header though - close enough???

Cordless close quarter drill will be worth ever $9.99 you will spend at HF for the 4.8v drill. I crack all the nuts and then use a cordless to take em out.
