CD Changer in 1999 E300D
My 1999 doesn't have a cd changer. I pulled one from my 1996 parts car and got the amp that is back there with it. The connection to the cd changed seems to be different on the 1999 than on the 1996. The 1999 has a single small thin cable. Is that the fiber optic cable ? The 1996 had a big plug with lots of pins that plugs into the cd changer.
It looks like the female end on the cd changer is modular and can be removed with two screws . Is that a part i can change out with the correct adapter for the 1999 ? I'd post pics but my car isn't here now. thanks

Nope sorry they are two completely different animals.
You have the D2B fiber system on a 1999. 1996-1998 (and I think the last of the 124s) had a 10-pin control harness that has analog audio and digital status/control over a serial link. If you have no other use for them, contact Ed at Becker Auto Sound. They are looking to buy cores, working or not, for spare parts or to refurbish to sell. Likewise he probably has the correct changer in stock to sell you. Note however that you have to use the HHT or Star DAS to tell the system that you have added the (fiber optic) CD changer or it won't recognize it. The analog 10-pin unit just has to be plugged in to work with a compatible receiver.
