Shifter rods lengths for 617?
I have a previously converted 240 manual with a 617 in it. That car has rusted to death. So I'm going to use its parts to put the manual in my 82 wagon. I can see the shifter rods have been modified, but since I didn't do it, I don't know how much they've been modified. Does anyone have the original 616 lengths or the modified lengths for the 617?

If so, then all parts from the donor should go directly into the recipient. |

Depending which transmission you are using, depends on the lengths and angles.
The old Iron Box with the separate aluminum bell housing as used 77 - 81? and the all one piece aluminum box as used on the 81? - 83. I swapped in a manual Aluminum box into the 85 300D. When I shortened the rods, I first connected them to the trans end first. Then attached the screw on ends to the 3 levers pointing down from the shifter assembly. Hold it horizontally, lay the rod on top, and mark the rod where it appears in the hole. similar to the way they are on the rod ends now. Cut the rods, thread and screw on the ends. You will have to make some adjustments, bends, tweeks etc... Up on the bottom of the shifter assy on ea side of the three levers, is a up side down "V". the levers each have a hole in them. Use a nail or drill bit of appropriate size, place it through the holes. This keeps the levers in the neutral position. Now reading what you did on the swap, a 617 into a 240D with manual trans, it should just drop right into the 300TD and all be good. That is if I read it right. Charlie sent from my pos computer
