Special tool for removing glow plug wire 1995 E300D?
The 1995 E300D uses a unique glow plug with a connector containing a wire clip that locks the cap onto the detent in the glow plug. The '96-97 (W210) E300D uses a very similar glow plug without the detent so the cap easily pulls off.
![]() I've had problems removing the connector from the glow plugs on the '95 because of that wire clip. There's no way I can get in there without some kind of special tool to depress the clip. Pulling hard just breaks the connector. I'm almost at the point of changing to the 1996-style connectors and glow plugs. Is there a special tool I just haven't heard of? Jeremy

Don't know about a tool but if there was more of a radius on the bottom side of that glow plug stem's tip, so that it was more ball-like rather that as flat as it appears in the picture that would make the clip easier to expand when the connector is pulled on greater. That sharp flat underside doesn't allow that clip to get out of the way easily. Even a taper would probably do the same thing. Looks like the clip gets fully trapped by the sharp walls and then can only be removed sideways completely to release it's lock-in-place

On the surface it looks like a spear pointed or awl shaped object stuck into where the arrow points would open the clip up and allow you to pry it off at the same time.

If those pliers apply to all those engines, they aren't likely to help your oddball little clip. Is the clip in the connector, or wrapped around the outside? If it fit's outside, standard pliers with the jaw relief aligned with the brass, might 'crush' the clip top to bottom and spread it enough to release the glow plug.

The clip is inside the plug; from the outside, even holding the removed plug in your hand you can't see the clip.

Wow, not much room in that cap for that clip...
If that slot is the only way in, a screwdriver blade or awl might work. But it would have to be kept out of the ridge in the glow plug. That clip must be about pinched shut to fit in there. |

The metal pin part that makes electrical contact with the glow plug is part number 003 545 26 26 but you probably don't need to replace these unless they're really damaged. These parts are the same for both the 606.912 and 606.964 engine. Yes they can be retrofit onto your 606.910 engine.

That's good news about the plastic portion of the connector. Thanks. Saves me the expense of a new harness. Do you think they will work with the 1995 glow plugs? Any idea where the can be sourced.
