how many lines were replaced? - sorry just read - you replaced all.

did you disturb the prefilter? did you change the O ring on its collar?

can you snap a picture for us to see if you put a line incorrectly.

The way the fuel flows is
heater -> pre filter top -> prefilter bottom -> lift pump in -> lift pump out ->secondary filter (round one) in from side -> secondary filter out from center ->IP pressure side.

Did not disturb prefilter. New oring last year with new filter. The line to the prefilter was changed last year also.

Closest I've ever come to having this car scrapped.

oh btw having glowplug problems on this motor also which doesnt help things, but it hasnt been cold enough yet to really be a problem. One of the GP snapped off last year and I have grounded that plug. All show impedence below 1.0 from the plug at relay including the grounded one, harness was new about 5 years ago and have power to the relay and to each pin. When the car was running the GP dash light would come on after it was running.

There was some rubbery material over the area to the left of the bolt in the attached pic that flaked off when I removed the cover to test.

I gave up and just had it towed to a shop. Will report back to hopefully enlighten others. My AAA membership just paid for itself for the past few years.

the plumbing looks correct.

your sign of white exhaust is unburnt diesel fuel. - can be the glowplugs are not operating

Something is certainly not right. Once I am getting fuel squirting out of the cracked high pressure lines, it will only take another 15 seconds of cranking to start coughing.

Could be glow plug related as Zulfiqar mentioned. I would have thought there would be enough heat created from the Pistons riding up and down.

It will be interesting to hear what it turns out to be.

How many miles on your engine?

an engine with low compression requires excellent glow plugs to start. We dont know any of those parameters here

I agree. I get white smoke (and shaking) if I unplug just one glow plug and my engine is still young.

Curious to know how many miles on the engine...

Update: $670 later

Diesel guy had a heck of a time getting the injectors bled, said there were also some vacuum leaks (those could have been me in a hurry to put back together and frustrated). I didn't get time to personally review with him, was with the wife and had places to go. The injector return line I had gotten few years ago was the wrong kind and replaced. The car also needed a new fan clutch, I discovered that the other day and had them replace that.

On a related note he could not diagnose why the glow plugs aren't working, he tested them all and the relay as well. His only suggestion was to replace the relay ($200 new) which I passed on for now and am seeking further guidance. I tested the compression a few years ago and was fine.

I did ask him about rebuilding/replacing injectors and he said they could be leaking and causing hard starts. I followed my wife for a few miles when we left and there was white smoke at first even at idle but cleared up within 5 miles.

at least the car runs now... I love this car but is frustrating

Am going to edit the original post and echo Zulfigers advice on replacing them one at a time with warm engine and run after each. Wish I had done that from the get go.
