Question W201 Headlight switch R&R

I think my 190D headlight switch has an internal short. It is turning on the indicator and the running light on the left side at ALL time - similar to switching the headlight switch counter clockwise ( 2 positions ) to turn on the left and right side lights. I removed all the fuses and it is still doing the same, so I suspect it is the headlight switch.

I am going to replace the switch to try out but it seems to be a lousy job with over 12 wires attached to the switch. Have anyone changed it out before and can offer some tips? It looks like a PITA job to me.

Thanks.

I did this some time ago. I don't remember a thing about it, so how hard could it have been?

Oh I don't know about that. It could have been so dreadful that you're so traumatised you now have memory loss!

This is the W201 switch. Bunch of wires on the outside then a bunch of wires on the inside behind the white plastic thingie. The W124 is a breeze, it is a plug-in. It can be done but just a PITA job to remember which wire goes to which screw head.

I find that a smartphone or digital camera works wonders when you need to get something back together. Pencil and paper used to work, but tech makes us illiterate.

I had to replace the one in my Sportline a few weeks ago. Not too bad of a job but take tons of pictures. using tape to hold bunches of wires together may be helpful. I did it by taking one wire off the old and the putting it on the new but that probably wasn't the easiest way.
