Rubber bushings

Do I need to lube those rubber bushings on upper/lower control arms? What type of grease or fluid to use?

Thank you

David

You can lube them to make them easier to install. I usually use a silicone spray lube. It works very well. I have also used brake fluid which works well also. I prefer silicone becuse it is more inert.

Dilute Muratic acid is used by many. It may still be sold as "RuGlide" in a gallon container with a little in the bottom, to which you add water when you buy it... some come with a three foot tube and sprayer tip which helps to get up under the wheel well to those items.... used it many years after learning about it working at a front end shop... If you mean after they're installed, don't!

Rubber bushings are meant to absorb the movements within the body of the rubber itself -- there should be no sliding at all between the rubber and its metal mounts. If there is, it's because the bushing is hardened and will have to be replaced soon because they wear out very quickly once they slide on the metal.

But if they are making a creaking noise,,,, between the time you have that happening and when you get them replaced.... Muratic Acid is a proper thing to stop the squeaking noises... Some things will cause the rubber to deterioted faster... this is not one of them.....
And some rubber bushings are not in the category you mention.. like the ones isolating the torsion bars from the firewall...
Once you have movement which is causing the noise,,,then you have lost that torsional effect you are referring to .. like on A Arm bushings... and might as well keep them from making noise until replaced.... Greg

Would any hardware store have this muratic acid? Sounds like useful stuff to have. Thanks.

You can get muriatic acid at the grocery store if your grocer has an aisle with housewares/hardware etc. It is with the pool cleaning supplies.

Maybe my searches would have been more productive if I had been spelling it correctly....

I found a gallon of RuGlide hidden in one of the isles of Pep Boys.
