W123 SLS Lines broken. Making repair.
Hello all. I will do my best to update with photos but for now I need some info. My car sprung a leak which turns out to be rusted SLS lines. Sadly they are one piece from the engine bay to the SLS valve in the rear. I tried to get the used lines from the Texas TD listed on here, but could not connect. Back up plan is to cut the lines, add fittings, flare the ends and piece in a new section with unions. Fingers crossed.
2 questions:
I believe the bottom port is the supply and the top is the return. My lines broke and I am not sure which was which. They broke above the crossmember. Any help would be appreciated. I have it all apart now. Two lines are already flared and ready. I am bending the new sticks of line now. Pictures to follow for those of you that are searching for info later.

Sorry, do not recall which line is which. Did this repair using flares and unions years ago and it worked well. Remember the flares should be double flared the same way brake tubing is done. Lowering the differential housing at the differential mount allowed extra working room toward getting the lines over the rear subframe.
How are your fuel and brake lines while you are in there? I think I did them all at the same time. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!!

Removing the rear mount and lowering the diff is a life saver for sure. I also installed new axles while I was in there which requires servicing the diff at the same time. So far all is well. ![]() |

Other lines look ok.
Will report as I get to the testing phase. Fingers crossed the bottom port is pressure and the Top is return. More later.

Most power steering pumps have a relief valve set <1000 psig. I expect SLS is similar. Brake hydraulics can reach ~700 psig, depending on how hard you push the pedal, so dbl-flared brake line should be fine.
For those needing to change the SLS rubber hose, there are posts on that. The fittings are re-usable, unscrewing w/ simple wrenches. Ditto for the high-pressure power steering hose.

I cut the lines, flared them and spliced in a 1/4" brake line. So far, the first three leak tests have proven success. More tomorrow.
