A/c Schraeder valve replacement w123

Bought a manifold gauge for r12 and realized that at some point the valve was removed and an r134 adapter screwed into the port.

So I'd like to reinstall the valve core and toss the 134 adapter.

Dealer has 2 in stock. But $22 each. Ouch.

Are these standard valves? I can get a master cool kit with a bunch of valves for 45 bucks

Replies appreciated

Thanks

You can buy the regular standard schrader valve cores from autozone etc,, it comes with the tool too and is about 5 dollars. The packing should hold 2 cores. Cant say if you can find the plastic service caps as all caps sold now are the R134a ones.

however you can use the R22 caps, buy from an AC supply place (this part is not licensed etc.. should not be much money)

Have you unscrewed the R134 adapter yet? On my 85, when I unscrewed the 134 adapter, the R12 core was still there (134 core pushed on the 12 core). If so, take out the R12 core, go to Napa and match one up. If the R12 core is not there, ask for a standard core. Shouldn't be more than a buck or 2. You don't need a $45 kit.

A tire valve probably won't have a good enough seal material or be rated for high temp / pressure.

Regardless of what you use, be sure to install a metal or heavy plastic valve cap that has a rubber seal to form a last line of defense against leaks.
