any interest in EGR Delete kits?
 

I made my own EGR Delete kit for my daily driver today because I was having issues with the EGR. It didn't cost much, and took me next to no time. It also made the intake manifold removal take no more than seven minutes to take on and off now.

I was thinking of making them and selling them to the members on here for a good price. It would include the diode and resistor to get rid of the code from the computer and everything needed to bypass the EGR.

I'd also start making them for the 603/602 and possibly 617/616.

let me know. it'd give me something to do in the garage when its too cold to work on stuff in my driveway.

You might want to consider the EPA penalties for selling EGR delete kits. The worst part about it is that Pelican would be sucked into any litigation you trigger.

Make them for the guys that build off-road trucks with the Mercedes diesel engines. The EPA only regulates on-road uses.

I call BS. Find me one example of someone that was fined for disabling and EGR valve. Secondly, there are TONS of products out there to bypass the EGR on various cars. Third, there is already a member here who sells EGR block off plates for the OM617, and there has never been any issue.

Interesting, to be fair, I was referring to an individual getting fined.

However I do find it interesting that they fined a company for making a product that could be used to bypass emissions devices...

The problem here goes beyond the individual making the parts...Since Pelican's official policy is that the boards can't be used for commercial sales, Pelican itself bears the liability for this activity. The moderators on this board are doing nobody favors by allowing this to continue.

Just so you know, when the EPA goes after a manufacturer, they seize their customer records. If the vendor fails to provide such records, they pay a $45,000 fine for every day they don't comply. So the purchasers inevitably are outed and fined.

One state or another may go on a psychotic rampage to persecute people who block egr and/or dally around with emission controls on their personal automobile but the federal government won't bother with shallow pockets.

Edge makes some good products and the truck owner doesn't need to blow smoke.

In an era of Scott Pruitt and the very stable genius who is his boss, the question of enforcement is probably moot.

Ohh c'mon guys... Tinted windows, straight pipe exhaust, changing the odometer, lowering the selling price on a title to sneak out on tax costs, and going over the speed limit is ALSO illegal.....

It's not like he was gonna be like pumping hundreds of thousands of these things! I would be extremely surprised if more than a total of 50 kits were sold in the course of the lifetime of this forum...

Again, the liability here may rest with Pelican, which is tolerating this stuff to be sold here, even if it's by neglect. I don't know why anyone would endanger someone else's business in this manner. These boards are entertaining and occasionally helpful, it's shameful to return the favor by endangering the host. If you want to do this business, go set up your own site.

As for suggestions that things are different now, EPA still prosecutes at about the same rate as always:

Go through these cases. You'll find VW for sure, but most of them are small time operators. They probably go after the small businesses because it's easier.

And finally, it's worth pointing out that if the manufacturer is located in one of the 13 states that incorporate CARB rules by compact, or sells into any of those states, then they would be liable to prosecution by California regulators as well. I just don't get why anyone would think this is ok.
