Brass W123 Radiator at PNP

So last week, because I have a 'Toolkit' card, it was half-price weekend for me at the Virginia Beach Pick-N-Pull. I scored an aftermarket brass & copper radiator out of a non-turbo 1980 300CD for $25. A bonus - that price included the factory engine oil-cooler.
It's going to be a spare for my '84 Euro 300TD, since the original-style non-turbo plastic/aluminum radiators are non-repairable, NLA, and there are still some radiator shops around that can fix the brass ones.

Happy Motoring, MarK

A CD, a TD, or a brass radiator for one?

Several years ago, I also picked up a brass radiator for my '82 240D.
(Maybe that's why I haven't needed to replace it yet!)

Now if only I could find a good group-49 battery for $25...

Happy Motoring, Mark

I grabbed a spare radiator w/ oil cooler for my 300D's at PickNPull on 1/2-off day (~$25). My purpose was to swap to solve a slight over-heating (didn't help). I flushed both 300D's w/ citric acid and changed to Evans Waterless Coolant so no more internal corrosion concerns, but the nylon reservoirs still get brittle w/ heat and age so won't last forever. There are many after-market aluminum radiators for classic muscle cars, but few are the proper dimensions for our cars. One for a 1940-50's car might fit (tall and narrow).

You can also order custom radiators for less than you'd expect.

All three though the radiator is the most unlikely.

At least mine don't have the nylon reservoirs to worry about!

Jealous! All of the yards near me are bereft of any useless w123s or early 80s Benzs. I used to go to Pick a part near me in the valley.

Now I have to road trip to other yards that are farther out. I hate paying money to get into a yard and have only 1 or 2 relevant cars picked clean.

I get to Virginia Beach about once a month and the P-N-P is fairly near my place there. So I pay the $2 every month, since I also own a few Asian vehicles, and sometimes get requests from customers.
But the frequency of W123s has dwindled to about once or twice a year.
I might have been tempted to get more off that CD, but it was a miserably chilly, wet, blustery day, and I don't own a coupe, or enough space to start a W123 parts warehouse!

Several years ago, some neighborhood brats smashed a friend's 300CD driver's window. He had to pay way too much on E-bay for a replacement.
I hope somebody needy is able to score a bunch of CD parts soon, before it goes to the crusher!

Happy Motoring, Mark
