Is there a stiff, yet flexible hose that custom shops use that I could purchase and do the necessary modifications on? Thanks
I had installed an '85 fender mounted air box in 'Rena 2.0', which I saved before she went to the crusher.
See the attached photo.

There is a flexible ribbed rubber hose that goes from the bottom of the air box to the turbo inlet.
I believe its part number is 603 094 07 82. It should fit without modification.

I can easily retrieve the used hose, and would be willling to lend it to you so you could test fit it, if you wish.
I work close by in Oakland.

Has anyone here tried installing a '85 CA air box in their W126 300SD?-85-w126-fender-mounted-air-box-rena-2.0.jpg

Thanks Alec. Do you remember if the outlet from the air cleaner pointed up about 60*, or was it pointed straight out from the bottom of the cleaner? I ask because on my setup I see no way of a hose going down from an unmodified cleaner to the turbo without kinking. I'm wondering if you were using a W123 cleaner, mine says W126 on it.

Here's a pic of what the stock setup looks like in my car. The air cleaner outlet sticks the factory hose almost straight into the air, but the turbo on the federal setup is far below it.
