How to clean crusty injection pump to bare clean metal?

I fixed my major fuel leak, a worn O ring where the shut off valve connects to the IP.

So I sprayed down the IP, dryed it off and what do you know, it's seeping out of the delivery valves.

What's the best way to get it CLEAN, dremel tool with valve lapping compound?

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

Flitz Industrial Strength Metal PreClean

specifically recommended for cleaning aluminum and leaving it bright not dull or discolored.

Maybe it's just me, but I would think the priority would be fixing the delivery valve seals.

Of course, but isn't it important to clean the IP before servicing the delivery valves?

Is that a real question? Take a can of carb cleaner and go to town. The area should be clean, but it doesn't need to be polished.

The top of the pump where the delivery valve holder screw into has to be clean enough that when you remove the delivery valve holders crud does not fall inside. Beyond that it does not need to be cleaned.

But nothing wrong with cleaning if you want to.

Measure the height of the delivery valve holders before you remove them.

See post 8 on what not to do.

Brake clean and a stiff nylon brush is what I use for that

The PO of my 300d at some point had the engine sprayed down with a clearcoat that now is peeling off, has turned yellow and generally makes the engine and bay look like arse. Would that Flitz cleaner get rid of it?

Sorry for the thread hijack...

Spray it with brake Kleen and a wirebrush. Blow it clean with an air gun. Why is it being so extremely overthought? The delivery valves take 30 minutes.
