Please Help.
Hi folks:
When my car is hot( Normal temp), if I move it from Drive to park and then try to put it back in drive or reverse, it takes about 3-4 seconds before it falls in that gear.( its auto tranny). Fluid level checked and it ok. All vac lines in engine compartment is clean. This happened for last 3 years only in summer. In winter its ok. Problem is more noticeable when AC is on. Any suggestion. Thanks MVK

MVK, as no one has replied, I'll return you to head of the line.
From my reading (not experience thank goodness), it seems an excessive delay between moving shifter and transmission engaging can be a sign of pending trouble. Do a search on related words and see what you get. The transmission is controlled by vacuum like most everything else and some delay is normal apparently....but yours sounds a bit long. Late shift
MVK,
You might want to check under the car to see if the bushing in the shift arms, etc. are severely worn. If so, you might not quite be getting the tranny in gear all the way on each shift. ben |

Thanks Both NIC and RIDGE:
I will look into both issues. Hopefully its a minor issue like a small adjustment or so. Funny thing is it works fine on a cooler day and in winter. Thanks MVK

I solved my transmission gremlins with "tuning" information on the link at the bottom. Additionaly, one of the things that stopped eratic shifting on my 300d was replacing the vacuum bits, 5 or so on the vacuum valve on top of the camshaft cover. One of the ways some judge the wear is by how long it takes to go into reverse. A couple of seconds is normal, but much over 2 or 3 seconds on a warm engine is not good. Brothertons Transmission Page

Almost every benz I had took 2 or so seconds to shift into gear.
My 300SDL takes 2-2.5 seconds to go into drive or reverse, but shifts flawlessly. |

Thanks again guys.
Now I am at ease. My tranny shifts nicely. Al connections are like new. Will try to clean the orifices on the flow regulator fittings. I mean the little plastic things. Will take proper precaution not to make their hole big. Lets see what happens. MVK

In reference to cleaning the soot out of the lines, is there a good way to do this such as soaking in hot, soapy water? Seems like running a wire through the lines risks changing the inside diameter or puncturing the line. Anyone had any success with cleaning or is it best to just replace lines?
