1982 W123 300CD USA, antenna wires

I took off the panel underneath the passenger side dash and moved the entire center console up a bit to install new carpet. The car is now back together and now the stock Becker radio isn't working. Sounds just like the antenna is just disconnected. I see what looks like the antenna wire disconnected.(red arrow) But, there isn't an obvious place that it plugs in to. Without ripping everything out again, can anyone tell me where this plugs in to? The one with the RED arrow clearly looks like an antenna cable. Incidentally, what is that thing with the blue arrow?

I assume you mean that the one with the red arrow plugs into the back of the radio. Any idea what the one with the blue arrow does?

Is it easy to get to the back of the radio? Doesn't look easy

Post Antenna Wire

The black wire is for the old car 'phone . forgeddaboutit .

The radio antenna wire is fairly easy :

Remove the ash tray and set aside .

Use a #2 phillips screw driver to remove the ash tray surround, if you're gentle you can leave the ciggy lighter connected, lay it over to the left .

Reach in the open hole and grasp the bottom of the radio with your fingers pointing up and pull gently, the radio will slide out in your hand, again be gentle and only pull the right side away from the dashboard so you can see / reach the hole the antenna wire (red arrow) plugs into the back of the radio, push it in whilst slightly twisting it until it stops, slide the radio back into place and turn it on to test .

The original Becker radio plays with the key off .

? It works ? good, now re install the ash tray surround and ash tray, go for a nice drive, don't forget to check the oil .

These exact instructions didn't work for mine. There are two secret brass colored clips on the right and left sides under the radio. You need to push down the left one with your left hand, push down the right one with your right hand and with your other hands slide the radio out just enough to be able to get one of your other hands in the to plug in the antenna.

Depending on his radio, the older ones are held in with two vertical mounting brackets that when tightened pull the radio into the hole.

Thumbs up Radio Service

Good point ! .

I was speaking of the Becker Electronic radios, the two knobbers are different .

Still easy to remove for this job .

Just be careful to not yank any plugs out of the back of the radio nor disconnect the speaker wires....

I'm not sure what model of Becker I have. The car is a 1982 300CD USA. The radio is rather weird. I have found absolutely no way to tune it other than the search function. That only works sporadically and won't stop on most stations. Does anyone know of a way to set it to a certain station?

Back to the two brass colored tabs. They are indicated by the red arrows in this picture. You have to hold them both down while pulling the radio out while saying hail Mary's. Make sure you use all five of your hands.

You have the early version of the 612 model.
I believe the tuning instuctions in the link below might be applicable.

That's nice .

IIRC to tune it you press the star button and then use the numerical buttons to select the frequency you desire .

To set a station simply hold the button down for a moment or two and it'll self set .

That's the early Becker electronic, I have a few but have swapped out for the next version because it's better and the same price used...

I have a few Beckers that work fine I need to sell off .
