Crankshaft position sensor?

When the crank position sensor began to fail on my wife's '06 E350 gasser, there was no CEL and apparently no stored information in the car's computer. The dealership had it for a few days with the techs randomly driving it around before it "did its thing" for them and they could diagnose the sensor as bad. I have no idea, however, how applicable this is to your CDI.
