Throttle linkage slop?
Working through the problems on this '83 300sd.
One of the issues is slop in the linkages. The rod from the pedal (that goes through the firewall) has slop at the stop lever. Is that normal or is the hole in the lever just worn? I'm considering tack welding it in place if its an issue. |

Correction... As the throttle moves downward, all the linkage moves except the throttle rod on the pump. The slotted piece on the valve cover that moves the throttle rod doesn't start moving the throttle rod until the pedal is pushed down a good bit.
That's where the slop is coming from. Is that normal? |

There’s gonna be some jigglyness at this point. How is the bushing on the firewall that the rod is embedded in?
The slotted piece on the valve cover invariably wears out a little. There’s supposed to be a cylinder shaped poly roller that glides within the slot, but oftentimes the poly wears out and the slot enlarges. No off the shelf fix for that. Don’t worry bout the rod having play in the stop rod hole, pretty normal. There’s a linkage adjustment tutorial somewhere round here... |
