engine shock upper mount
I pulled out a circular (O-ring shapped piece) rubber gasket looking thing that was sitting in the engine shock uppper mount connection (it just lifted out--sitting in a bunch of black nasty crud). I assume that this is a *piece* of a rubber mount that is located in the upper shock mounting section.
Do I need to replace this upper mount immediately?

Based on my W123
I would just pull the engine shock all together and order a replacement, as well as the gasket. It's pretty cheap and I can't imagine that going without one until the new one arrives would be that big a deal.

You can replace just the mount. The engine shocks are about $37 a piece. I forget how much the mounting kits run.
