I/P to block connection oil leak
I discovered an oil leak at the top center of the injection pump to block connection on my 84 190D. It only leaks while the engine is running. Does this mean I have to remove the pump to replace O-ring/gasket? If so is anyone familiar with the procedure?

same problem but appears to be comming from the bottom of I/P. Also need help with procedure (quoted price for replacement-$300, which makes me think it must be easy).

mine started on the bottom, now has encompassed the whole thing. Will be doing it soon. I believe Saintamany has done this. Search for topic "oil leak location"

I have done this many times. It just takes time and patience and make sure you put the crank on 24 degrees BTDC before you pull the pump. Also mark on the top of the IP and block with a chesil and hammer, This way you will get the timing back right without have to reset it by using the drip method. This is the only way to replace that $ 3.00 gasket.

I had to replace that gasket on my 240D while I was timing it. I moved the pump so much I wore it out. It was no problem to make one out of gasket paper using a ball peen hammer if buying one is not handy. Be sure to set the crank and mark it like MBJOE said.

The OM60x engines use an O-ring, not a paper gasket.
And please use the proper IP lock tool (crank at 15 deg. ATDC)! It is only $20 from the dealer, and is MUCH easier & faster than the drip method!! |

Well I stand corrected . Thanks ! I made my post and I guess I only read IP leak of which I had just fixed mine the week before. An O-Ring instead of a gasket . I didn't know that , I guess because I have never taken a 190D apart before. Timing is different from the 240D and 300D too. Interesting.

Actually the timing is the same. The drip method is 24 BTDC, the tool method (which you can't use on older cars) is 15 ATDC. But it's only because the reference point is different. If you used the drip method on an OM60x it would also be 24 BTDC. There, are you confused now?

What I've got out of this is : $300 for the fixed leak is money well spent!!!!:p
