Unhappy Sun roof stopped working.

My sunroof thing stopped opening. I hardly need it considering its almost freezing, but I am an obsessive compulsive car keeper. Does anyone know which fuse it is? I suppose I couold replace them all-pretty cheap? If its not a fuse-what might it be?

Its an 84 300 TD (woops).

Thanks

Check that you are getting power to the sunroof motor. Go to the trunk/back cargo area?? (Don't all wagons have manual sunroof?)

find the motor and use one of those 12V testers and see if you get power to the motor when you activate the switch.
You could unplug it (it has a two-pin connector)

If there is power then it's probably the motor or the sunroof is stuck or something.

See if you can operate it manually using the emergency sunroof nut

If you don't have current to the motor.
There should be a fuse guide in the fuse box telling you which one is associated with which electrical part(s)

replace as necessary. If you don't have the fuse just take one out from another that is similar in rating. (same color) - Remember to replace it back though..

If that doesn't help check out the switch in the center console. Pry it out and clean it out with electrical cleaner of some sort. If that doesn't help.. replace the switch (find used or something)

I have not done this myself but that's what I would do
good luck

Sunroof will be on the same fuse as a couple other things. In my car the sunroof is on the same fuse as the cigarette lighter and the stereo. I made the mistake onetime of trying to use a ford cigarette lighter (don't know why now...) and it popped the fuse. So I guess what I'm leading to is if it is the fuse there will be other things in the car not working along with it.

Probably a burnt out motor (my car is on its 3rd sunroof motor, including the one from the factory).

Fuse tip...

As noted, there is a card inside the fuse box telling which fuses are which rating and what they power.

So's not to have to dig the card out everytime something goes dark, I ran several xeroxes of the card last time I looked at it. Keep 'em in the glove box so that when something doesn't work I can delay getting soot and grease all over me as long as possible.

BTW...the W123 sedans have a provision for operating the power sunroof manually from the trunk...is there something similar on the coupe and wagon?

Put the car in a quite place and run the sun roof.. If you hear the motor running and the roof does not move.. The clutch is slipping.. adjust the clutch.. But only until it labors but still runs when adjusted.. It will burn up the motor if you lock the clutch up.. If the motor does not run then its a fuse or motor..

Lots of sun roof motors are replaced becasue the clutch is slipping and many people do not understand its there.. Lots of motors are replaced because some one locked up the clutch and it burns the motor up..

Hey Ken would trying to manually crank the sunroof closed make the clutch come loose? Because when I tried to manually crank mine closed it worked but then it didn't want to close right after that so I went back there again and manually cranked it open then closed it manually and the motor would just spin. MB replaced the motor... I hope that I broke it for my wallet's sake! If they did indeed replace it and all it needed was an adjustment...

I can not say about all models.. but on the ones that have the tool that looks like a screwdriver on the end.. That can happen ... The roof gears are ran by the screwdriver slot in the middle that runs the sun roof..... the nut on the out side adjust the clutch.. so the motor moves the screwdriver part.. (Over simplefied).. So if you moved the nut you may have loosened the clutch.. Tighten the nut and you tighten the clutch.. over do it and you burn the motor up.. Most of the time if the motor runs it just needs to be adjusted.. It has been the same from my first one on my 67 250S to my 85 300 TD.. and my SD's.. However my wifes 92 300CE has a plastic adjusting handle.. and I do not remember any manual way to run it.. But then only adjusted it and did not try to run it by hand.. I can not tell you about other years and models..
