Too Much Trans Fluid
There is a little too much trans fluid in my auto transmission.
Would this in mornal events make it shift a little hard? What are the other potential problems that it may cause? Thanks a lot folks. |

I don't think that it would cause hard shifts, but it could very well blow out seals. Overfilling an A/T is definitely NOT a good thing.
Good luck, |

I don't understand this chain of thought at all... if there is too much fluid, get a tube and pull some out... don't be on to what problems that would cause... fix the amount so the other thoughts are moot...

The chain was not really about a little too much fluid. Correction for this is obvious. It was really a simple question to anyone who would know the answer, "Would too much fluid in normal events make the A/T shift a little hard?" For any contravention of protocol, I am of course contrite. |

too much oil in transmission will cause it to foam. Foam is
like air, starving the transmission of lubrication thus could burn out [fail] |

joes87sdl, where is the "top over flow"? Does it have some sort of plug that pops out with too much pressure? Thanks.

In addition to the things which have been mentioned....
the foaming increases the rate of oxidation.... which decreases the effective life of the trans fluid... meaning it will deposit varnish into the little control holes in your trans valve shifting body... and thus may actually cause harder shifting... or worse... cause ' flare' or soft engagement of the clutches which are controlled by hydraulics.... which of course wears out those clutches in short order.... so while it is nice to know what it might or might not cause... everyone should know and be concerned with too much trans fluid OR OIL IN THE ENGINE... or OIL or REFRIGERANT in the AC system.... excess foaming ( even with no air like the AC ) is bad for the working fluids in question.
