Help! Here is the story. I don't have a real grasp of the correct terminology so bear with me. Advance Auto diagnosed a bad altenator on my car while idleing, testing the amperage(?) from the battery. So i bought a new one (worldwide/Bosch brand) and had a local mechanic install it (no MB specialist in this small town). After installation the mechanic tested the altenator and saw it was not recharging the battery. So i took my old core to Advance for them to bech test it - it tested fine, but they could not do a complete test on for reasons that i did not quite grasp. Anyway, the mechanic told me the altenator is receiving power(volts) but is not recarging the battery. Where do i go from here - assuming the new altenator is 99% good.I hope this make sense to someone. Many thanks in advance - this is very frustrating and i feel like i am just throwing money out the window.

Try disconnecting the Glow system relay while testing, many times these relays stick & use all of the power the alternator puts out. Many mechanics miss this during their testing.

This is a good idea. If the glow relay is stuck, we can ship one to you ASAP. You can tell the tech they have been known to pull 80-100 amps.

If the Glow relay Sticks

Will the Dash Light that shows the glow plugs are heating stay on if this relay sticks. Is there anyway to test the relay?

Thanks,

Dave
