Injector Pump Leak (odd place?)

I have been noticing diesel fuel smell and checked it out. I posted in this forum and got requests to clean my engine. Well, in about 15 minutes the engine was cleaner than I have ever seen it over the past 12 years. Too bad a I was gun shy of doing it.... Many thanks to those who provided assistance and to Simple Green. Now I have a Pine smelling diesel!

Anyway, I did locate that the injector pump is leaking from the side. I have attached a photo and drawn an arrow to the leaking point.

The entire injector pump assembly is dry. The leak is not coming from the top (from a bad o-ring) or from another fuel line. I dried the injector pump off and I can watch is puddle when the car idles.

Has anyone ever seen a leak here before. What can be done to repair the problem. The car runs great and has no sign of injector pump failure.

My mechanic did look at it on Sunday and say that it is a weird spot for a leak. He doesn't want to rebuild the pump unnecessarily and hates to pump a used pump in because the current one is durable.

Any suggestions???

Thanks!!!

Not every pump repair is a rebuild. If it's just a matter of replacing a cup plug, take the pump off and send it to a pump shop. For less than a c-note they'll fix it.
