Gasser 4-Spd Manual in Diesel???

Gang-

Was at the u-pull yesterday and found a ~83 280E 123 series sedan. It certainly has the gas motor, and 4-speed MANUAL transmission. ALL of clutch, shifter, etc, stuff was still there too.

I'm currently on the quest to find a 4-speed manual donor car, and wonder if this is it. Does anyone know if the gasser tranny will bolt to the 617 diesel engine? At the very least, I should probably go pull the shifter and clutch pedal parts.

Suggestions?

I don't know the answer to your question, but Gus Singh told me yesterday that he has a friend who is parting a 240D. I didn't ask about the transmission, as I don't need one. But he might be able to help you out. He's in St. Pete.

I am pretty sure someone said they DO bolt up... ratios may be a little off... but still worth it...

I have read here more than once that it will indeed work. The one thing that may not work from the donor car would be the driveshaft. Most likely it would be the wrong length. It's very possible that your original driveshaft may be the right length though.

Also, if the original is the wrong length, you should be able to determine the length and have a driveshaft shop shorten one of them.

Good luck, there's nothing like driving a manual.

Have a great day,
