E300D Oil Pressure Drops to -0-

My car is a 95 E300 diesel with 102K miles. I regularly change my own oil and filter and use a brand name 15W-40.

I just recently noticed that when I let up on the accelerator pedal the oil pressure gauge (factory installed in the instrument cluster)drops to zero or at least indicates a drop to almost nothing.

I have monitored oil levels in the last few days since I noticed this and I am not low or anything on oil. As I say, I just noticed this recently and, as I recall, the gauge used to read at least some level of pressure even at idle with the pressure rising some as the engine developed power under acceleration or pull.

Any ideas here? What does this sound like? I would guess a bad oil pressure sender. Does this vehicle have such? I am guessing this per my experience with my Dodge Cummins pickup.

Again, any words of wisdom are appreciated.
