My mitty vac seems to have a leak down problem. I got it from Harbor Freight (its the metal one) less than a year ago and was wondering if anyone has opened one up or fixed one. I usually pump down to 15 or 20 hg which shouldn't strain its little innards too much?? I almost went through the hassle of pulling an unlock line out which woulda really been fun. Tracing a leak with a leaky mitty vac is not working

don't have a suggestion for fixing your mity-vac, but i do know harbor freight has a pretty liberal return/exchange policy...

There's a rebuild kit for the mity-vac, but I don't know whether Harbor Freight carries it.

I have got lots of stuff from them but never had to return anything, of course I lost the receipt. Maybe I,l take a run down to their store Monday and whine and at LEAST see about the rebuild kit,.. thanks Joe Steve |

I seem to recall there was a discussion about a year ago where somebody located the source of the leak and came up with a simple repair. Might be worth a quick search.

Harbor Freight is pretty darned good about customer service. If they don't have the rebuild kit or won't replace the Mity-Vac, Eastwood has the rebuild kit. Their part number 46004G. Costs about $15.00. www.eastwoodcompany.com. Cheers, Wes |

You probably just have some contaminants in the diaphragm.
This can happen while testing unclean areas around the engine. This happened to me too, and I used a cigarette filter to filter the vacuum. I inserted the filter into the clear PVC tube that came with the unit, and then reduced down to the adapter. I have not had a problem since. If you want, I can e-mail you a pic. Robert |

Thanks, I like that. Actually I hosed it out (didn't, take it apart) with some LPS#1, checked it next morning and it wasn't leaking. I will always check before making major decisions about ripping something out tho ![]() Wes.. that site will be good to have if Mr Mitty Vac wont come back to life. Thanks. NO... its not an "off color" site ![]() ![]() I traced my leak to the actuator up under the passenger foot well. It drove me crazy looking for it cause it only leaks when the engine is running.
