Thumbs down parts prices, not really diesel related

I don't know if I'm the only one that has noticed
this but the prices on fastlane are really expensive.

I get most my parts at www.**************.com
but some parts are cheaper at
www.************************ and there is a site
called www.importedcarparts.com that has some
really cheap parts.

Example.

Fastlane Timing chain $100.47 part#A5100-55538
Importedcarparts Timing chain $77.36 part#A5100-55538

notice the same parts #'s

Yes shipping is free at fastlane, but the $23.11
difference makes up nicely for the shipping

I ordered a timing chain, chain tensioner and tensioner
guide rail for $134 and change at **************
I had a few more little things and shipping came to
less than $25(Comming from WA I live in NJ)

The timing chain alone is $70 at performance products
and shipping would be $13.25
Still making it $10 cheaper than fastlane.

All sites: www.************************
www.**************.com
www.importedcarparts.com

Just to inform!!!

Louis.

Do the vendors that you listed help support this site and do you get technical questions answered by them in a fairly timely manner. How much money has this site saved you since you joined? Personally, I think it is rude to the people that started (and keep it going) this website to post something like this.

As I stated before I buy most my parts from **************
and yes I do get technical support from the owner Kent.

(He has his own repair shop and has been working on MB's for the last 10 years)

I just order his timing chain kit and it came with instructions
for changing the timing chain and how to install the chain tensioner and the tensioner guide rail. ( all this for $ 134)

If you break that down: chain $100
chain tensioner+gasket $ 77
chain guide rail $ 4

at fastlane $181
And if I have any problems I can email Kent and
he will gladly help if he can,and he reply's fairly
fast to the emails.

I rented a chain press tool from performance products
for $36.50 +$9 S&H for three weeks.
The part comes with instructions on how to use it
and they have a customer service Phone# (1-800#)
and they have a parts catalog(free).

They also sell the smaller parts that are hard to find,
like those red botton clips for the exterior trim,
door panel clips, rocker molding clips, rivets for the air intake
(for the plastic panel under the windshield wipers)
and hood stops.

I really like this forum and I'm a member of 3 more
but I also live on at tight budget these days and
every penny I can save means that I can lovingly restore
an other wise doomed 300TD-T wagon.

I work hard every day and the only toy I have is my
wagon but to me and I'm sure many others the world
revolves around $$$$ and if I can save some I won't
hesitate.

Louis.

Since this is a forum that is brought to you free of charge by people who sell parts, it is in bad taste to declare that parts are cheaper at XXXXXX.

What he's not saying is that shipping from mercsource.com is ridiculously slow.... It took me nearly a month to get clutch parts out of them last year, before joining this forum where I'm happy to dwell.

My Fastlane water pump, purchased in July, arrived in 3 days!!!

You get what you pay for, I guess. LOL.... and you can never under-estimate the poor taste of somebody who enters a privately sponsored online gathering of forums.

Isn't is nice to live in a country where everyone can
speak their mind and give their opinion and not get
tortured or killed for it.

In all my travels on the net I have encountered a
large number of parts websites.

And it just struck me as weird that a few(5-6)
of them use the same warehouse from where
they source their parts, and that they all had
different prices for the same parts.

Dieseldog, but where do you think the resources
come from to do the sponsoring?

Granted that one month was along time but Kent
(owner)does the mechanical work(he has a repair shop for MB's)
And he also answers questions online.

My parts never took more than 4 days.WA to NJ

Like you said you get what you pay for.
And you pay $20+ more for the same part.

A glorified Toyota isn't even allowed near my baby.
Mercedes parking only.

Diesel 924, I live in the real world not a dream
world.
I'm only 32 but I have learned that there is always a
catch, especially when it concerns business and money.
A business exist to make money, bills need to be paid and
someone has to pay them.
Noting is free.
Exept the friendship between to friends.
