The starter freewheeled after engine start, not against flywheel but just spinning. Luckily my wife got out the tool kit and disconnected the battery. The starter was smoked so I replaced it. But still same problem, the starter disengages from flywheel but continues to freewheel until battery lead is disconnected. Is there a starter relay that may be stuck, or is it the ignition switch ? Thanks in advance, John

Sounds like you may have a bad ignition sw.which is located on the rear of the ignition/steering lock assembly, and a little hard to get to.It is held on with three screws, and can be reached with a short(very short)screwdriver. A mirrow will help a lot....When starting your car, make sure the key returns to the'on'position. The spring that returns the switch from the 'start' position to the'on'position does wear out.Good luck.
