I bought a 300 turbodiesel! need advice

guys,

you guys are a bad influence! i just bought another car. if you guys remember, i bought a 300d a while back.

anyway, i got an offer from a forum member and since i the cigarette smell was pretty bad, i sold it.

as luck would have it, i had an opportunity to buy another one today. it is a black 300 turbodiesel. no bodywork. original paint. no rust. 220k miles.

the guy selling it had no emotional attachment to the car. he wanted $500 but took $400.

the only problem is that there is a loud "clanking" sound in the engine. i'm getting it towed on sunday. it sounds like it is coming from the bottom part of the engine.

with the help of this forum, i have the confidence to tackle this project.

i know that the loud 'clanking sound' could be anything but do you guys have any guesses as to what it might be? help me out!

the worst case scenario is it is something terminal so i have to dump the car for parts.

jennifer
