I have a 1977 123 series 240D. I recently put a 300D (5 cyl) into it and put new 300D springs on the front. Whenever I drive over a bump or go over a "pot hole", there is a loud banging noise from the front end. Four years ago I had the front end mostly rebuilt. Any idea what is causing the banging noise ? Thanks, Lovedabch in Virginia Beach !![FONT=arial]

First find a parking lot where you can ' go around' the speed bumps.... and go over them with just one side of car until you see if it sounds more on one side than the other... if it does not seem more on one side then it is likely something connected across the two.. in the steering.....
Then you are going to need to look carefully for signs of scrubbing.. places like the top and bottom of the shocks... the control arm bushings..... the balljoints ..... may have to look close because it does not take much travel for some of these noises to sound loud.. many travel through the frame and echo in the passenger cabin... You do need to find this.. there is nothing which is supposed to make that noise in your car...so something ( maybe important) needs tightening or replacing... |

240D Front Suspension Bangs !
Hi Leathermang,
Thank you for your reply to my problem. I had my Benz in the shop yesterday and they think they have identified the problem with my front suspension banging !! They say it is the Brake Strutt Rod Bushings. I have had 2- Kits ordered and hope this will solve the problem. Lovedabch, in Virginia Beach Quote:
