1978 300SD. 195,800 miles. Daily driver. Stored in winter. Runs very well. It is one of the earlier ones, number 1277 off the line.

info

Picked her up for $200, about 6 mos ago. Turned over 200K while I owned it. I never cared for diesels, never liked working on them. I have been bitten by the Benz bug. I love my 300SD. Went to school on the ALDA system, now the front end. Took out the gas tank, that was easy. Fixed a few odds and ends. Installed pioneer CD stereo, all 4 pioneer speakers, and tinted all the windows. Sealed up rear window with clear silicone after cleaning and blowing out gaps. Steamed clean the engine and suspension a couple of times over. Makes it much nicer to work on.

She is in pretty good shape, straight body, no rust that I have found.

Interior in good shape. Fixed buku oil leaks, electrical issues, valve adjust, replaced oil filter case. Got a new free interstate battery.

Insignificant note of interest:The previous owner said it originally belonged to an actor on "Hill street blues".

#1 '82 ~170k mi, wrecked (an excellent car to have a wreck in I might add)
#2 '84 ~180k mi, died of neglect (I was broke, swapped it for a 733i - a BIG error)

#3 '82 ~185k mi, silver w/blue interior, some blowby but will hit 100mph, daughter told me so; her daily driver
#4 '84 ~180k mi, silver w/grey interior, my daily driver

changed out all the rubber in the fuel system (among many other things) and both really run well on B100, just not too available around here

Just one, 82 300SD, I have been trying to make a list and prioritize what to fix next. I have a feeling this one could keep me busy.

Just one 85 kalifornistani emissions model. Its color is "Impossible to Keep Clean Dark Forrest Green".

I did have a 79 before but it had the crank crack. I thought I hit some bailing wire on the road when it happened, but the car behaved like nothing was wrong until I got off the highway 60 miles later. I was so impressed by this I had to get another. In hind sight I should have kept the exhaust manifold, turbo, intake manifold, etc... so I could decalifornate my new one.

Mine is an '82. I have most of the service records form the previous owners. The engine was replacd ay about 100,000 miles--it just "blew up" in the dealers lot(?). Soon after that the odometer was changed. I haven't added the miles up yet, but soon, I will.
I've had it for 2 years--Ca r was basically straight but neglected. I stripped it down and repainted it ( removed the door glass and backlight, all the trim and weatherstrips) in a close-to-original dark blue, repainted all the plastic trim in a close-to-original dark gray, Colored the faded carpets, rejuvenated the leather seats, including new leather along the top of the rear seat, and recolored all to the original color. Few mechanical repairs--guide rod mounts, engine dampers, valve adjustment, and changed ALL the fluids, fixed some electrical glitches and window guides.
Still to do--I think I will reboot the axles before putting it on the road, and fix the A/C.
I am waiting for January 2, 2007 to get it tagged. In MD that will eliminate the dreaded used motor vehicle inspection as "Historic" cars ( 25+ years old) are exempted form this "welfare for mechanics" scheme.

83 300sd metallic blue/silver

Toronto vehicle all it's life - have the original service records from MB Canada.

128,000 kms or 80,000 miles

Service records seem to indicate this is close to genuine

Need to replace hood release cable and fix cruise before it gets too cold!

83 300 SD 'der Schliefer'

Tremendous car. Keep up with all maintenance, treat her right...

Daily driver, with (estimated, but at least) 300,000+ miles and counting.

Absolutely love it. Lou

Would love to find a 140 body in good shape at some point.
