Oh my god what kind of wreck was that?! Someone going 150 mph and slamming into a tree?! I've never seen a car left in 2 big pieces like that.

Yeah, but the muffler bearings are probably shot.

I feel like I'm gonna get ripped for saying this, but as terrible as the accident was, I still don't see evidence of a frontal impact. It looks like the car was hit sideways, rolled, and opened like a sardine can.

There's something to be said for cars that are fully framed.

It'll make a good boat anchor or paper weight.

No kidding.. You can't tell me a w126, or better yet some old domestic barge would not have held up better to the train that hit that or whatever in heck happened to it. Crumple zones my butt.

And the only Audi's I ever liked had VW diesel engines..

That's only the second time that I've ever seen a car break into two pieces. The first time I saw it first hand, not via a picture.

The first time was on the Autobahn between Frankfurt and Karlsruhe Germany. It was a Fiat 1250 sedan and the pieces were probably 300 feet from each other. The Fiat 1250 sedan tooling was sold to Yugo and that's basically what a Yugo was.

Real secure automobile.

Have a great day,

What happened the time you saw it first hand Larry, if you don't mind recounting it that is..

The sheer force it would take to do that to steel is astounding, the g-forces exerted on the occupants must have been up there.

IMHO; Audi fired the only person who knew the KISS law.
“Audi”, the leading industry example of how not to design an electrical system.
Hey; stop insulting Lucas, Lucas taught Audi and Audi improved the electrical systems on their own, right into the sewer.

KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid……………

I don't think an occupant in any car could have survived an impact like that. Whether it be in an MB, old domestic barge, etc.

I sort of have a love hate relationship with Audi, the 3 5000s's that my family had were a blast to drive, they had a nice interior, and handled great, they were just broken and in the shop every other week. The one I was stuck with for a few years wasn't all that bad, but it was still in the shop.
I had a chance to purchase a 1992 100CS two years ago, with very low miles, for a few hundered over wholesale, but didn't, because of the tendency of needing lots of repairs. My Subaru doesn't even ride or handles as nice as this 100CS did.

It seems, at least in my limited experience, that Audi has become the sucessor to the old Fiat line----Fiats in the 70s were known as great 50,000 mile cars--but after that they were done. It seems that Audis are great 70,000 mile cars.
I'll take my old, slow 240D, 270,000 and still doing OK.

Side impact with a tree + shear = G force

Hello Everyone
Impressive pictures.
Professional opinion:
Side impact with a tree + shear = G force.
Best guess = 65 - 90 MPH, control loss, side slide and impact.
It is possible the driver survived; not likely, but possible.
Have a great day.

saw simular on cops

There is a show called cops where a drunken man going 100mph, loses it on a rain slick road all caught on camera of course. The mustang hits a pole sideways leaving a wreck just like this. The passenger died the driver was just shaken up a little. Drunks live through any thing this guy was walking around talking they did not Evan take him to the hospital just booked him for manslaughter.
