Anyone here watch NASCRAP..???

I know this is the diesel forum but I have to vent. At the risk of pissing some people off I have to say that I hate NASCAR!!!!! I can't believe it is as big as it is here. The more and more I watch F1 and MotoGP the more I get hooked.

Why is this in the Diesel forum?

If you don't like NASCAR, don't watch it, listen to it, or read about it.

Same with pro football, pro basketball, hockey, or anything else.

I'm with MD. I grew up playing baseball and loved the game. I don't watch it any more since the strike some years back, but I'm not complaining about it here, I just don't watch it.

Just as there are all different types and brands of cars because everyone likes different things, there are different kinds of racing.

Myself, I like ANY kind of racing that involves the internal combustion engine and wheels.

Have a great day,

I don't watch it, listen to it or read about it. But it is EVERYWHERE, it is like I can't get away from it. This is the diesel forum but like I said I had to vent somewhere.
We, at this forum in particular, are an intelligent bunch. I was just thinking out loud I guess. Sorry if I took it to the wrong place. Nascar just makes no sense to me. But then again so does WWF wrestling......wait a minute.......don't 90% of the people who watch Nascar, also watch WWF?

On Tuesdays I watch Speed Channel. "Two Wheel Tuesday" it is supposedly called. I am a bike nut first and foremost and when I look forward to watching cutting edge and seat of your pants, 110% balls to the wall motorcycle racing, I turn the channel and FRICKIN' NASCAR is on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah.. I cancelled my cable right after Fox picked up Speed and it bacame ALL NASCRAP, ALL THE TIME. I hear you... I hear you... I'm offended they still call it TWT.. there is 1 hour of racing and 2 30-min infomercials thingly disguised as 'shows'. Worhless.

I hear the OLN (or something like that) is picking up most of the bike racing. There is just something about a maching that can hurl a human down the track at 200 MPH+ without any thing between the human and anything else except about 4mm of leather and a polycarbonite brain-bucket.

The skill required to keep a machine making inexcess of 220 HP hooked up through a single 190mm tire while grinding down the pegs is just facinating.

Nascar is cool. 200 mph 2 feet apart 4 wide in a enlarged salad bowl. Only in America. The only thing I find more fun than a good short track race is WRC, now those guys are crazy!

This should've been a poll :p Its an american thing, I think. I'm not much of a fan for racing, except for the WRC (not the SCCA Rally) and the Le Mans (again, not the american ALMS). Nascar is... in my opinion, a waste of resources (I'm soo gonna get bashed for this). I would maybe watch it once if it were 240D's blasting around in a circle

WWE (former WWF) is all bs. They had to change the name of it after many fellow "fans" went to www.wwf.com and got the world wildlife foundation and cussed them out (for example, my friend told them to go f*** a panda). Its all a way of life. Just like how we drive diesels and some drive camaros and mustangs. I don't mind the occasional ride in one, but i surely won't buy one.

I don't need to go, I think I know enough. A bunch of grown men who can't speak proper English, behind the wheel of what they call a "stock car". All cars that are basically the same, using technology that has progressed like a snail over glue the past 50 years. And to top it off the go in circles!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Cup racing still involves carburetors and two valves per cylinder, but if you examine more deeply you will find that these guys get almost 800 Horsepower from 355 cubic inches of plain old American V8 and make it live for 500 miles. That's 2.25 horsepower per cubic inch!

They are not working with all the incredibly advanced technology of Formula 1 with engines of a basic design that had one purpose and that was for racing. They do it with configurations that were originally designed to go 100,000 miles making a couple of hundred horsepower.

Yes there is NOTHING stock about a stock car. The skin must match a template. Everything else about these cars could not be found in a car coming from Detroit, period. The blocks are high nickle content and even then are thrown away or make their way to the Saturday night dirt trackers after a Cup race.

These engines MAKE nearly 800 horsepower and due to their stock configuration, not designed for this purpose, literally bend in the middle while making that power.

In ANY kind of four wheel racing the "set up" is everything. Setting up an oval car is just as complex as setting up a Formula 1 car. To you it may just seem like a circle, but every corner is different and most of the "ovals" are not ovals at all with different banking, surface, etc.

There is MUCH MORE complexity to this racing than you realize. If you were to dig into it a little you would start to realize that.

I have been around people that don't like watching baseball. In most all cases I've seen, the person who does not like watching baseball is not familiar with the fine points of the game. If you are really into the game, you find interest in every pitch. There is much more to it than meets the eye. For those who get interested in the fine points they find it fascinating and spellbinding. For those who don't, they find it about as exciting as watching grass grow.

Most people who find baseball boring, however, don't belittle those who do. Making fun of the Southern accent of SOME of the drivers and others involved in NASCAR racing sounds like arrogance to me. Are you implying that anyone with a Southern accent is somehow inferior to you?

BTW. Although I occasionally watch NASCAR, I NEVER watch wrestling.

Have a great day,
