AMG 3.4 cam advancer

Hello.

Can anybody tell me why AMG did reduce the max advancing from 34° to 26 ° on the 3.4 engine ?

Maybe don't need to advance as much with boost would be my guess.

Ooops, sorry. I was thinking it was turbocharged or supercharged.

If its a higher compression engine, they may have had clearance issues with the valves.

Or it just may be emissions related.

Advancing the cam helps low speed power / idle quality and retarding helps high speed power. Given AMG engines have more aggressive cams / less need for smooth idle, they likely can't tolerate such a wide cam timing swing so the adjuster has limited range.

The C36 ( M104 ) also has limited range.

Would it be possible to adapt the advance range of a advancer unit yourself ? ( 36° to 26° )

The 111 and 119 advancers are, if I recall correctly, 20 degrees. If you have the chops you could disassemble one and machine the range of motion to any amount you want. The timing tab will need to be re-located since they are not at the same position between engines.
