I disagree that this mod might introduce (extra) contamination; it is downstream of the filter housing, so no problem there

Here's a picture of mine; I used fine Stainless Steel mesh, and carried the vertical angled line of the grille at the inner edges of the cutouts. I glued the mesh into place with Household Goop, to make for an easy replacement. Good thing, 'cuz one has already taken a BIG hit...needs replacing. If it'd hit anywhere else, likely would've been BIG damage. It's because I've been driving it through New York!

damage control

This is why I have designed a louvered/welded/overhang version, with drilled ventilation holes: steel doesn't tear as easily as screen/mesh...

So Scott, did you just take some "Pre Louvre'd" metal and have it welded over your filler panels, before which you drilled holes in to achieve the flow through effect?? Ingenious!

As stated, on mine I used the mesh from an E55 lower grill. I believe it to be sturdy and pretty resilient as I'm sure it got to be pretty good at takin a lickin since it rides down there on the E55 as the car is hurdling along at Warp 8 on the Autobaun!

yes, indeed

I can best describe the louvers (which are still being painted - so I apologize for the lack of a picture) as "storefront awning" style; they are not noticeably there until you walk right up to them.

I will clarify, ASAP, with pictures.

Kind regards,
