300e muffler

Which muffler would you suggest for a 300e remus or supersprint? In the supersprint catalog it states you have to trim the bumper. They are both similiarly priced. Which would you choose?

remus usually = high quality

although i do not know the specifics of the remus for a 300e application, i do know that they are generally known for high quality products.

i dont know no nothing about the supersprint, but "trimming" the bumper does not sound like a mod i would want to incorporate. however, the look would certainly be "custom".

thats my .02 worth. happy new year. - benton

i think the trimming is done at the plastic skirt and can be optional - depends on how you hang it. when i tried out an arospeed it was sitting just below the skirt and might have looked better if i had done some trimming. good thing i didn't because i wound up taking it off. if i remember correctly, i think the supersprint is quieter. i found a lot of comments on aftermarket exhausts at the old benzsport site. you may want to post at the new one.

If you don't mind me asking but why did you remove your aerospeed muffler? Im kinda worried that if I go with a performance muffler, I might loose low end torque. Could you tell me the new benzsport address?
Thanks

i took off the arospeed because there was some low end resonance that grated on my nerves after a couple of weeks. with the engine fully warmed up i found it a bit loud around 2k rpm which is a range i often find myself in around town. some on this board are perfectly happy with it and over at benzsport there were many that have the same setup. they did say that it was loud compared to everything else and i think supersprint is the quietest. you have to remember that on the 300E, most of the silencing is done by the muffler. i am considering dropping the resonator as that will have minimal effect on sound levels. i miss the nice chrome tips though and am also looking for some that would go on the stock exhaust. the "new b*nzsport" is bnzsport.com...

I love my arospeed, because I love the low rpm growl. at high rpm's, its quieter and still music to my ears.

If I was going to go with remus or supersprint, I'd choose the one that looked the best. The tip shape, and size are what would determine my choice.

I did 2 customers 300e's and I used a similar muffler to the AROSPEED. I put it on one customers car first without a center muffler and the low end growl was great but I knew the customers wife would complain. So I installed a Walker Turbo muffler. I installed the smallest one the had for 2.25" pipe.
and the results were great! It had the low end tone but was not loud. On the other customers car i installed a 2.25" Flowmaster muffler that was taken off of another car. (I used the Flowmaster as a center muffler) and then installed the Square Twin Tip "REMUS" exhaust from 3D Racing (bought off ebay from aimspot2000, btw: good fast service) and the results were great!
Sound is very unique and very throaty but quiet. I also did this same setup but with the DTM mufflers on my 190e 8v and a customers one.

Good luck!

NOTE: Them round resonators are worthless....the raspberries are still there. If you want to get rid of the rasp you will have to look in the junk pile of your friendly neighborhood performance muffler shop and look for a round type off of a Acura or Toyota.
Then the exhaust will be a little more quieter.

$0.02...

When my car was rear-ended I got a whole brand new original Mercedes exhaust. I can't remember what was on the car before (Remus I think) but the Mercedes exhaust sounds way better to my ears...very low throaty rumble at idle and like Ashman said - it quiets out at around 3000RPM and hums perfectly - I love it!

I have the supersprint exhaust and I love the sound. The trimming of the bumper is required because even though the muffler clears the lip it still vibrates against the bumper and can get very irritating.
Eisemann makes exhausts for the W124 that use the stock exhaust gap however their tips are BMW 'M5 ish', worth considering though.

Yal,

Last I checked you had to trim the bumper with the Eisenmann also, or at least for my E500 you do.

I like Superspint exhaust they are pretty good. I am going to get one for my E500 to replace my Remus that I currently have once Supersprint releases mines (in a few months).

Shanta,
You're absolutely right the Eisenmanns for the coupe and the 500 are built exactly like the supersprints...they need trimming.
But the ones for the other W124's are built like this picture.

If anybody is interested in checking them out check out their website www.eisenmann-technik.de
