This is strange.. Please help me..

So I bought some used wheels and tires yesterday. 18" 2 Piece AMG 8.5 fronts and 10 rears with 245/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rear. While driving it seems that every road bump or imperfection seems to move my car or kind of swerve in a very strange way. The front tires are not very good and are not evenly worn, can this be the cause? the tires are mismatched, Dunlops on the front and Kumhos on the rear. The Dunlops are very noisy but I am not sure if it's just because they are worn or because they are worn unevenly. Thank you all in advance for your help and advice.

I posted some pictures in case you want to see what they look like. Go to this post.

Are the wheels definitely the correct offset for the car? I fitted some BBS alloys to my, ahem, '93 M5, and these had a similar effect to that which you describe.

It turned the wheels were the incorrect offest for the car, and increased the track enough to cause pretty bad tramlining.

Equally, the tyres are likely to be a contributing factor.

Cheers,
Bryn.

wheels are the correct offset. I will get new tires today, hopefully.
Thanks for the advice. I will post results.

Are the tires significantly wider than the ones you are replacing? If so, this side effect is very common when you increase your contact patch. New tires most likely will not make a difference.

the original tires are 225/55/16 I think. The tires on there now are 245/40/18 so yes they are wider. I ordered new ones today and am hoping they make a difference. I've put wider tires on previous car and never experienced anything like this, it really is abnormal.

plus size wheels and tires can effectively magnify the "squirrleeey" characteristics of worn suspension, chassis, steering components

as you know, the larger wheel-tire combo exerts more stress (vs. OEM sizing) on these components as they encounter daily roadway irregularities

only way I know of to ratchet down these (-) tradeoffs/effects of plus sizing is to replace the worn suspension, chassis, steering components

hope this helps and let us know how it turns out
