Alright well I finally got my W124 sway bar brackets today and they are different. The bracket excepts a slightly bigger bushing than the W201 bracket. The backet is also a bit heavier duty than the W201 bracket. I hope this helps.

I should clarify, the W201 2.6 bracket is the same as the W124 bracket, the W201 2.3 bracket is smaller.
I had no issues using the stock 2.6 W201 brackets with the E60 bushings, they fit perfect. |

Well I finally got the limo bar fit. It doesn't fit very well. The inner brackets are not perfectly straight. Anyone have more luck than me?

what do you mean "the inner brackets aren't perfectly straight"? i'm planning on buying a limo bar but may select something else of fitment is a issue.

You got me on that one, why not post a pic as I have never seen one. Here is my E60 bar in comparison to the stock 2.6l bar (EVOII rear bar in the background).

I know what you are refering to. It happened to me, so I made spacers between the frame rails and the brakets and it solved the problem. The Limo bar is actually a little different in shape than the standard 300E bar.

Actually, the limo bar is almost identical in shape to the Sportline bar, which is almost identical to the stock 300E/300E bar. Photos are here (look at "limo_bar3.jpg) :
http://www.meimann.com/images/mercedes/W124_sway_bars/ The limo bar fits the 124 chassis with 6 cylinder engines perfectly, zero mods, nothing "not perfectly straight", no spacers needed, etc. Fitment of a 124 bar (any version) into a 201 chassis is something I have NEVER done so I can't offer advice on that... sorry! ![]()

More fitting questions
Thanks for the clarification gsxr. These guys had me worried that I shouldn’t dream about the "sportline plus" bar option of Limo front and E500 rear on my 1995 E320. It will all fit like a glove, with no modifications. Are you also sure that is true for the E500 rear bar? I read someone was concerned about that fitting too. I’m not DIY mechanic, so I want to be sure everything fits before I drop off all of the parts. Are you also sure all the new bushings fit in the stock brackets that support the big bars? I suppose the bushings could be thicker and could need wider openings in the brackets to accommodate the big bushings. I jus want to be sure to get all of the parts I need before I drop off the car.

Yep the limo bar & bushings will fit into the stock brackets, etc up front - no problem. All 124 chassis use the same brackets, including the 500E and LWB (limo) versions - no problem there. I have been told the 500E rear fits perfectly as well, but I have not personally done this yet - it's on my list... ![]()

Hey, I have putin the 500E rear sway bar in a 300E, no problems, make sure you get the bushings too, and replace the rear sway bar links at the same time. The 500E bar last summer listed for 212 dollars. so its kinda expensive, but it tightens up the car so much, but make sure you do the front one then the rear one, or both at the same time otherwise you will have some steering problems. I think it is called oversteer, dave would know.

When the front slides (pushes), that's understeer. When the rear slides out, that's oversteer. A thick front bar will result in understeer and a thicker rear bar is required to correct that, and vice-versa. Most cars have understeer "programmed in" from the factory, as less experienced drivers can usually correct a front end slide better than a rear slide (spin).
BTW, I updated my sway bar spreadsheet and PDF file today. The bushings for the rear bar have been superceded to a MUCH cheaper W210 part number. I also have a new part number for the E60 bar, but don't know if that can be ordered in the USA (yet) : http://www.meimann.com/images/mercedes/W124_sway_bars/
