Speeding

in Pennsylvania, where i used to live, the sole purpose of all cops is revenue. they clocked me doing 87 in a 55 in a dodge minivan. i was going for 100, but it wouldn't do it.

91 in a 55. In an '88 Subie Loyale SW. Before I realized that I70 in Indiana is revenue collector central.

My excuse that I was used to flooring it just to keep up with traffic in the mountains of Colorado didn't fly. He was going the other direction and did the whole spin around through the median and traffic be damned thing. I think he was pissed that he tore the lower half of his grill off doing it. Kept me in the patrol car for half an hour, while rush hour sped past at least as fast as I had been clocked. Bastards must have known it he was the only guy patrolling that stretch.

Speeding in MD is much easier. On I95 there is always some idiot with a point to prove who will be the happy rabbit. I usually just provoke them a little, and then let them run about 1/2 a mile ahead. Its worked well for several years now.

I got that too. I couldn't believe I was pulled over, SINGLED OUT from a crowd of faster moving vehicles(joys of driving a German sport sedan). 37 in a 25 zone. Got off with a warning, I had an excuse "OH I just got my tires replaced and my speedometer needs to be recalibrated tomorrow. I honestly thought I was going the speed limit.

I was at 35(figured I was safe) according to the speedo, but these old electronic speedometers seem to lag behind on acceleration by 5%. My GPS verifies that with 70 - 80 mph times in 2 seconds and NOT around 4 like the speedometer read.

NEVER EVER speed by yourself, if its one thing I've learned. As Hatterasguy mentioned, find a rabbit and follow him as fast as you want to go. In my case I watch traffic up ahead for brakelights(signaling cops), and now that I have a new radar detector, I have an extra precaution.

YEAH triple digit plus speeds here I COME! Time to add some more videos to the collection to show some of you guys just HOW crazy these people really are. Everyday I95 speeds are similar to the ones found in World's Wildest Police Videos.

BTW, my excuse if I were caught at a high rate of speed. "Really officer, I had no idea! I was just following the car in front of me."

Same freeway both times 101 in Morgan hill CA. With in a mile of each other about 25 years apart. I will never learn but those are my only speeding tickets well one other 52 in a 50 thrown out in court

I put my theory into practice yesterday. On a big main road in New Haven, the speed limit was 40 but their wasn't anyone around. A yellow Civic is riding my tail and wants to pass as she passes me on the right I gun it and make it look like I want to race. I stopped at 50-55 and cruised right along she flew on for a few miles, she had to be going at least 10-15 faster than me. I was pulling on her till 50 Ahh let the rabbits run...

long time ago in a late 70's dodge

a buddy was driving home to chicago from lake geneva on rt 12. this was a little used freeway section of 12 that joined northern ill with southern wis. not heavily travelled. so john was feeling ill in the back seat and his little bro had the polara police interceptor flying on empty rt 12. when tommy saw the lights on he said to john that a cop was chasing them but not catching up. john said to slow down and tommy did to 70. the cop said he thought they were going a whole lot faster than 70 but wrote them up cor that. i don't remember the cost as this was easily 30 yrs ago. a couple days later john looked at the speedo and the needle was bent 16 mph on the 120 scale.

How about a break?

I have gotten a couple in the 95 mph range. Here is a story: I was coming home from a business trip from Minnesota to Chicago and in the middle of Wisconsin I had my 1985 Merkur XR4ti at 100 mph. I was passing a Ford Taurus and saw the radar gun hanging on the visor. I hit my brakes before the lights went on and never came off the brake until stopped. The cop was an alumni form the same school but I got the ticket for 95 in a 55 zone. I never deserved one more. I once went to court to fight a 93 in a 55 ticket and asked the judge to knock it down. He yelled at me that the cop should have given me reckless driving then yelled at the cop. This was years ago and the fine was $90.

During my youth I was tagged for 137 mph in a 55. 455 powered Olds Cutlass. Lots of go, but man was that thing scary at speed. Drifting what seemed like feet on the highway. Lost my license for six months. The worst part was this was the summer before I started college, so the first semester of school I was without a car.

Very recently I got a 110 in a 55 (I just don't learn ). Weird, my lawyer just called while I was typing this. $600. ****e. Says we can beat it no problem though. Hey as long as it stays off my record. More to come on this one, got court next week. Three AM on a 6 lane toll road, not a car on the road...except of course him. I got all the luck.

Blockin' the Left Lane

Got pulled over by a Mich St. Trooper, while doing 75 in a 55 zone on freeway (old Jimmy Carter days- yuck) in the left lane. I saw him coming, pulled over and let him by, then went back to the left lane. He hit his brakes hard in the right lane, pulled in behind me and pulled me over.

He started to give me "what for" for blockin' the left lane (at 20 over). Then he saw where I was headed, which has a left lane exit...he sez, Oh, I'm sorry, you're turning left...sorry I stopped you. Off he went with no ticket.

Trooper's in MI are usually pretty fair, although I have had two tickets in 30 years (one deserved, one maybe not).

PA State Trooper once just shook his finger at me after he hit me with instant-on radar. I was doing maybe 70 mph in a 55. I smiled back at him, and I swore I saw him chuckling.
My Valentine 1 went off just as he hit me with the radar, so maybe it took a few extra milliseconds to lock onto me while my hard braking took me down to 54 mph.
My wife says don't hit the brakes when they clock you, but I do it out of habit.

So after a continuance and some crafty negotiating, I;m walking with a suspended sentence. Got to stay out of trouble until August or I will have a record. Lawyer worked the fines down to $250 and got the other charge (toll evasion, which was BS; I've got the I-Pass unit) dropped. Very cool. Even with his fees, I still came out ahead of what a conviction would have cost and no record. Sometimes good things happen to good people
