Roll Bar Noises - 91 SL300

Just curious if anyone else is/has experienced grinding/clunking/knocking noises when they raise or lower the roll bar in their car??
Both the top and the roll bar function correctly, but the bar just makes some noise when it goes up or down.
So, has anyone ever run across this, and can it be fixed cheaply/easily??
It works fine, so I won't be replacing any rams, but any idea why it would be making odd noises??

I hear the same noises, almost like springs being worked.

Barry: I have at least one car making what I will guess are similar sounds, and I don't think it is anything to be conerned with.

Waybomb: There is a spring being worked! That's what makes the roll bar deploy so quickly when a rollover is detected.

mine is quiet while moving it up or down, but after it has been moved it makes a clunk sound, I think that is the lock going into place? When it pops up (possible rollover detected) it makes a lot of racket though, like Whirrr!!! and then slam. This has only happened twice in 3 yrs. As long as it works I don't worry about it.
