Angry Re-screening my windscreen-R129

While doing something rather dumb with a golf club, I managed to put nice sized hole in the upright panel of my windscreen. Has anybody ever repaired, or had repaired one of these panels? Appreciate any tips or advice....FORE!!!

Bob

Did you do it with the putter or driver
If it is only a tear you could sew it back together with nylon thread.

Too funny.....well, since it didn't happen to me, heh heh. Sorry.
Never heard of it being replaced, don't have much too lose by trying, if you've ever replaced a screen in a screen door, you should count as "qualified" to attempt the job I guess, maybe you can do a DIY article on it, take pics. Screen, I'm sure you could find something to use at a hardware store, bring it in to show them as a sample, I'm sure you'll need "the expensive stuff", but watch the thickness of the material. They make nice looking stainless steel screen I think, that might look like a cool modification! AND stand up to golf club shots better! Or just remove the screen and have some chain-link fence welded onto the tube!! That should stop the problems right there!

Instead of chain link why not chicken wire it will look "classier". On the other board someone said they picked up a new screen for 99.00 on ebay.

I am sure it is possible to repair the screen, but from looking at it, it is a job that I personally dont want to tackle.

I picked up a windscreen on ebay for $59. It has two little holes in it from like cigarette ashes or something, but I am not too worried about it.

Went to Home Depot and purchased a small fly screen piece and rubber cord like the one used for homes windows and doors and removed the old screen with a utility knif and install the new screen and secured it with the cord.
Came out just like new.
Cheers...Lee

Thanks Lee,
While the chain link or chicken wire options exist(homage to Gilly and Chris), I like your idea better! Seriously, when I pulled the spline out of the track, it's like none I've ever seen...round top with grooves to catch the sides of the mounting track surrounding the screen. The screen itself is bonded to the spline. (Mercedes 'Art of Engineering', no doubt!)

If I understand what you wrote correctly, even with this setup, the replacing of the screen is no more complicated than doing a window at home, and you had no problem getting the spline to 'catch' in the track? Thanks!

Did the same thing. Screen installs just like screen on a door. Find the smallest mesh screen, preferably nylon, you can find and install with rubber spline. They come in different diameters. Wish I could remember what I used, but a little experimenting will get you to the tight diameter for the groves. Go for it, it's easy.

Bob,

I have been in contact with Oris the manufacture of the R129 Windstop/Winscreen. They told me they would repair it for US$80.00 if you send it to them in Germany.
