Am I asking for problems?

Take a look at the photos and let me know what you think. Both tops sit on double 2x4s with 3" lag bolts to studs. Tops secured with two straps. Anchor points sit in pvc holes so tops are flush with wall. Do you think over time the tops will warp?

Now that is a nice garage. I think that is a great idea, but who helped you get those in position? Nice red SL

Excellent setup! I too have often wondered about warpage over time. Perhaps a "cradle" that's cut to match the curve of the base, and suitably padded, would help ease the stress on the single point.

Hmmm...

Snowbilt, thanks for the reply on the garage. It's almost three years old and I still don't have it painted. It's ready to paint and then I'll do something with the floor. It's fully insulated, gas heat, phone, cable t.v., lots of cabinets and electrical outlets every four feet. Before I recently sold two cars, and was keeping five vehicles inside. Now I have a lot more room. Putting the tops up isn't as hard as removing them from the cars. In fact, at first I had them only about ten inches off the floor, which made them really easy to hang, but then realized I was losing a lot of space. By hanging them higher, I can get the red car closer to the wall. My son is 18, and he helped me hang the white top. Because the red one isn't as wide, I actually did it myself. Once it's on the 2x4 and pushed flush against the wall, you can easily hold it there with one hand while you wrap the strap around to hold it. Page62, I too thought about tracing the outline of the top and cutting it out. I still might consider that if based on the comments here there seems to be any real evidence that the top might warp. Appreciate the comments.

First I like the car and the garage.

Consider tiling the floor, regular asphalt(?) tiles. Other than having to park on mats to keep the tire/catalytic heat from causing problems. It worked well in my garage, and isn't expensive. Haven't heard great things about the expoxies, and the linked mats get real pricey.

I'll try and post a pic later, used black and white in a checkerboard pattern.

Finally, how does that heater do ?
I have a small house furnace sitting in my garage. Overkill, and wastes a lot of floor space. But it works real well.

I've been trying to talk myself into converting to a wall unit like that, or a garage type hanging unit. The wall units are a lot cheaper, but I don't know about effeciency and what other issue's to consider. I do have a big ceiling fan in my garage, to I can move the air well.

Now thats a nice red 107, black interior the way it should be.

The top mounts are execellent. The only thing I might worry about is damaging the aft trim on the 107 top. Nothing some good padding wount fix. And the tops will absolutly not warp.

Don't worry about it. The tops are plenty strong and, btw, what is the difference between your setup and a storage rack? Nice job, nice car and FAN-F'n-TASTIC garage.

That's an awesome setup. Why don't you put two rubber stoppers on the 2x4 to minimize the pressure point like the factory rack. Look at a factory rack for the set up, you may also want to measure the distance between the two stoppers on the rack.

Very nice garage guy. Is that a ventless gas heater? Be careful if it is. They leave a LOT of moisture in the air. Might want to keep an eye open for the humidity level.

Looking at your garage again I noticed a possible "delicate situation". Are you nervous when you have to get your ladder down in the winter?

The heater does a pretty decent job. My garage is about 900 sq ft, and the wall unit heats it up pretty quick. I do have to use a fan to blow the air down from the ceiling which is about 11' high. It is ventless, and does have a tendancy to generate a lot of moisture. They also have a less than pleasant odor. I leave a window cracked about 1/2" when I have the heater on. Since the garage is insulated, including the doors, I only run the heater when I'm working out there. It takes about a half hour to heat up. It was 19 degrees when I got up this morning, and I was in a t-shirt after about an hour. I took a week off to refinish some hardwood floors, and the back garage has been the area to paint new trim and build some over the window shelves. I should have gone to Aruba instead. One of the last comments was about the ladder...wife wants me to move it. It makes her nervous when I take the ladder down, especially if both SLs are side-by-side and I swing it over both while balancing on a step ladder. Might be a good time to take her advice.

I read a post that someone had a problem not supporting the rear glass when storing in this position. Might not be a problem for you in a cold climate. It would be easy to support the 107 top glass with a strap but the 129 top looks like it would be a challange.

Do you have covers for the tops?
Since the tops are flush with the walls I would put something between the rubber seal and the wall unless you are going to cover them.

I would store the ladder from the ceiling by the door opening since you need to get on a ladder to get it down already. I can not tell how long it is but if it fits between the garage door rails it would be easy to get to and give you more wall space.

2manycars??? Only if they all breakdown at the same time.

Like most people who like to do there own work on everything, the garage is what catches the eye. Nice car ...but the GARAGE...Wow!

Well, I am no different. 900 sq. ft. garage is sweet. I too have fairly high ceiling so I built a mezzanine above the garage door. It is the width of the garage and the depth of the garage door when fully open.

Last time I saw my hardtop it was up there covered in snuggly moving blankets.
